If you notice from my profile picture I am lacking a little bit in the hair department, so, to try and hide this fact, I tend to shave what’s left of my hair to a very short length indeed. In the past I have actually shaved my head right to the bone, as they say, using a ’bic’ razor to finish the job off, but this was for a good cause and I found the results to be very chilly indeed, (plus my daughter refused to be seen in public with me until it grew back a bit).
Anyway, the problem with shaving you head, whilst leaving some hair behind, is finding the right head shavers which will actually cut your hair and not rip out small chunks at a time. I have tried several shavers over time and found most to be quite bad at what they are supposed to do, especially a certain cordless one which had as much power as a hand held fan, only managing to snag bits of my hair before crashing to a standstill, so I gave up on these pathetic trimmers within minutes. So when I came across a set of trimmers with a name I had previously heard of and had some experience of I decided to invest
in them straight away, knowing that over there lifetime I would make the purchase cost back and more.
Comes with… Blade guard, adjustment tool, 3 attachment ‘combs’ (1/16th , 1 /4 and 3/16th), oil, cleaning brush all in a hard case.
** IN CONCLUSION…
The process of ‘trimming’ my hair is a bit of a chore for me, although as time goes by there does seem to be less of it, but as I don’t like my hair to be long enough so that it sticks up first thing in the morning I take time out to do the job properly and finding the right tools for the job is a must. So when the Remington trimmers I had been using for a quite some time suddenly stopped working, (luckily I discovered they were broken before I started cutting my hair and not in the middle of the job), I began the hunt for a new set of hair trimmers which would match the quality I was used to. In my hunt on-line and down the shopping centres I came across so many different types of trimmers that my head actually began to hurt as I tried to make a choice, that was until I came across a rather oddly coloured set sitting on a shelf. Although initially I was a little apprehensive about spending nearly fifty quid on what I would probably only use once a month to help hide my baldness, but as I had previously used Wahl hair trimming products I decided to bite the bullet, so to speak, and invest in what I hoped would last for quite some time. That was nearly a year ago now and the yucky browny purple coloured hair trimmers are still going strong.
This trimmer itself is great for shaving my head, plus, what I really found was a boon about it was it that it is brilliant for the finer details around the edges, such as side burns and the back of my neck, maybe even them tramlines as well, (although I don’t have any tram lines in what’s left of my hair). The electric cable is of a good length so you’re not stuck to that plug socket near the floor, forcing you to kneel down in a dodgy position until you’ve finished the job in hand. The three cutting guides are a good quality rigid plastic, clipping onto the cutting edge with ease, staying in place when in use, which is really helpful as the last thing you need is the guard falling off in the middle of the job, leaving you with a hairless path right across your head.
Although they may not look the most stylish, being mainly a dull silver in colour with a funny shade of what can only be described as brown strip on the top and underbelly, they certainly do give a fine cut without that horrible snagging feeling as you slowly push them through your hair. They are of a good size and feel solid, yet are light enough so as not to become annoying after a few minutes of use, so you won’t feel like your arm is going numb as you do the job in hand.
Everything fits nicely into the case which comes with the trimmers, saving you the hassle of losing anything, and the handy little plastic oil container is ideal for lubricating the ‘trimmers’ cutting edges after each use, (a drop or two is all you need each time. I find that the oiling process is best done whilst the trimmers are on and after you’ve finished your hair).
In my opinion , if you like to have short hair but begrudge paying those hefty prices that the barber charges for the sake of two minutes work then these little beauties are certainly for you. The price of these trimmers are around the £50 mark, which some people may find a little pricey, but when you think about how long they will last and how much money you’ll save NOT visiting the barber then you’ll soon make your money back and more.
The only downside to this device, which is normal to all hair trimmers I suppose, is that the cutting edges can become a little warm after some use, so when you’re using them without an attachment ’comb’, shaving the back of your neck say, then things can get a little warm, although not skin burning hot.
