I bought a haircutting kit after my husband took my son to the hairdressers for his first haircut at the age of 2. It cost £4.50 for my son and £7.50 for my husband. I thought this was way too much(well, I am a penny pincher). The hair cutting kit only cost me £20 from Argos.
The kit comprises of an easy to use blade control clipper with 6 attachment comb guides in 3,6,9,12,19 and 25mm lengths. A comb and very sharp hair cutting scissors, also a cleaning brush, blade oil and an instruction video. The video is very clear and easy to follow.
The comb guides just slot over the blades then you just turn it on and off you go. They are also very quiet, so if hubby pisses you off you can always get your own back by shaving all his hair off when he`s had too much to drink(he he).
Whatever you do, always remember to check that you have clipped the guide on. I forgot once, and it wasn`t until I`d finished and looked at my son`s now non-existant hair, that I realised what I`d done.
The instructions recommend you use the proper oil which costs about £2 for a tiny little bottle, that you have to order. When mine ran out I just bought a 200ml can of normal multi-purpose oil, which only cost 69p and actually does the job better.
I also bought a hair cutting bib which looks really silly when you wear it but it saves an awful lot of clearing up. It is a big yellow cape which fastens round the neck with velcro tabs. The outer rim turns upwards so that when you cut the hair it just falls inside the cape instead of all over your clothes and floor. You then just undo the velcro tabs, pull the cape over your head, then tip the hair into the bin. This cost me £3 from the kleeneeze catalogue.
My friend`s kids hate having their cut, but when they saw the cape they couldn`t wait to get on the chair.
The hair cutting kit is great value for money as it has paid for itself 10 times over. It is so easy to use, it only takes me 5 minutes to cut my son`s hair.
I use clippers on my 2 year old. He started off quite liking his hair cut by the hairdresser at 10 months, but since turned into a complete nightmare. We now wait for him to fall asleep to shave his head! Very good op, thanks

I have one of these kits too! They are good value for money as you say, though my son is not so eager to sit in my 'hairdressing chair'

But I bet you don't use it to cut your own hair do you? Think of all the money you could save if you did that!!!
