I have been watching a very enthralling and sometimes gruesome drama series on BBC1 TV recently. This programme is Waking The Dead. It is usually a 2-part story shown over 2 consecutive nights for 1 hour each night.
Waking The Dead is a programme about solving what are known as cold case, by forensic experts. These are usually mysterious deaths from years gone by that the police and previous forensic scientists have not been able to solve, even if only skeleton remains are the only thing to go on.
The main characters are:
Peter Boyd – played by Trevor Eve
His occupation in the series is Detective Chief Inspector and is the Head of the cold case unit.
Spencer Jordan – played by Wil Johnson.
His occupation is that of a Detective.
Mel Silver – played by Claire Goose.
Her occupation is, like Spencer, a Detective.
Grace Foley – played by Sue Johnston.
Her role in the series is that of Psychological Profiler.
Frankie Wharton – played by Holly Aird.
She plays the Forensic Pathologist in the series.
Following on from the above characters I shall now give some background information to each of them, which (I think) will give you a very good insight into how Waking The Dead keeps me on the edge of my seat and wondering who has committed the crime that is being investigated.
The character Peter Boyd, as mentioned, is the Head of the team that works on cold cases. I think he has a very strong personality and really goes about his business in a methodical way. When something does not go his way though, or one of his team is not performing well, he gets on his high horse and throws his weight about. This usually happens in team meetings and briefings. This, I think, is a way he gets the best out of the other members of the cold case unit.
Spencer, the detective, seems to me to be a bit of a character. He seems to not be as methodical and needs a lot of guidance, especially from Grace and Mel. His character, though, is growing and he sometimes cannot decide which way to turn to solve things. He can choose one way to solve a problem when there may be easier ways.
If the programme keeps running for a number of series, then I think Spencer will be a vital member of the team.
Mel on the other hand, I think, is a strong character, and is well prepared to question her boss in many aspects of a case. She seems, in my mind, to give as much as she takes from Boyd.
Unfortunately, at the end of the last series, Mel was killed by a psychotic person. She will be sorely missed.
Grace, I think, is one of a kind. She is very professional at her job. Her profiling of suspects and victims seems to go down very well with the Waking The Dead team members. Although when her and Boyd are at cross purposes her character comes to the fore. They both have strong personalities and I can tell she sometimes does not like what Boyd does.
The final member of the Waking The Dead team is Frankie. She is my favourite character of the series and is very hard working and conscientious. No-one is allowed into her lab without permission and the right dress code. She is always looking to please Peter Boyd by getting the forensic side of the job spot on. I think her quiet nature complements the other team members’ more outgoing personalities.
Her role is more or less a 3-way part. She is a Forensic Pathologist (her main job), a Forensic Psychologist and a detective. All of these roles, I believe, she performs admirably.
If you have not seen this programme and enjoy this type of drama, then I can certainly recommend that you get watching and get hooked as I am.
Advantages: a great channel with loads of programmes Disadvantages: none
there are things like the tweenies and the tellytubbies.
The best by far, Eastenders has brought more and more people to watch the channel, it has the highest ratings. Eastenders is the number 1 soap with its great plots, e.g. the who shot phil storyline, and brilliant characters superbly acted by very talented actors and actresses.
Also one of its great points, is the way it gives us every bit of news there is from fatal accidents to great escapes, we hear every relevant story.
Over the years the BBC has brought us comedys to crime doubles. For example, the new series of waking the dead, starring such actors as Claire Goose (Tina from Casualty) and Sue Johnston.
Aswell as mysterious murders, the BBC has given us wildlife documentrys such as Wildlife on one and the supurb walking with dinosaurs.
I love the BBC and hope ...

* Kate *
Kaye Wragg stars as Kate and has appeared previously on our TV screens in Where the Heart Is, Holby City and Wire in the Blood. In the show Kate plays the acting ward sister, which suits her well, as she's the most responsible and serious girl. She's another mother figure but in comparison to Lia she's the more serious of the two and certainly the more likely to scold everyone else! She's possibly the least flirty and male orientated of the girls but once she finds a man, she's stuck on him (often to his dismay)! In her job she's the most focused and eager to please, but it often backfires and she ends up being put upon time and time again!

Louise Delamere stars as Lia and has previously appeared in other TV series including Casualty, The Bill and Waking the Dead as well as having ...
