I have always been a fan of Walkers chees & onion flavoured crisps. Definately the best crisps on the market for freshness, crunchiness and flavour....Until now! What have they done? Due to all the hype about nutrition nowadays, which I totally agree on!Walkers have decided to change the way they cook their crisps. They are now frying our favorite crisps with healthy Sunseed oil.reducing the sauturated fat by 70% and they only contain 0.5gm of salt, which is about 8% of the daily amount of salt we should have. All Brilliant news when you think about how unhealthy our population are today, especially our kids who are getting fatter by the day. But then they claim they have made these improvements without changing the taste. This is where I beg to differ!

I visited my local newsagent to pick up my paper and my usual 2 packets of Cheese & onion Walkers. Ididn't even notice the small logo informing me of the change of recipe. I got home, made myself a nice cup of fruit tea and settled down with my paper and munchies. As I pulled apart the seal of my crisps, I immediately noticed something different. The aroma that came from the bag was stronger and sweeter than normal. Thinking my crisps had, perhaps gone off, I investigated by sticking my nose in the bag and taking a long hard smell! Yes there was definately something different. I pulled back and that was when I noticed the sunseed symbol on the side of the pack with new recipe details.

Hmm, I put my hand into the bag and took out one of the crisps. I place it in my mouth to discover that the flavour has changed! It definately felt less oily, which is great, but as far as the flavour is concerned it tastes different. The familiar cheese & onion is still there, but the taste of the sunseed is very strong! The crisps are still light and crunchy so overall the quality is still good.

I munched through my 2 bags as I always do, but I didn't enjoy them as much. As I said, I'm always up for improvements when it comes to nutrition, but dont tell me things are the same when there is a distinct change in aroma and flavour. I expect I will get used to this change but for now, I swapped my daily munch for Wotsits! Have to wait for that 'cheese & onion' craving before I give them another go.

I've not seen these but I'm not a huge fan of cheese and onion! Maybe Walkers should have left them as they were. x

It's something that's been noticed in my house, too, am shocked the company would take such a big leap with a trusted product, you'd think they would've kept the option of the less healthy crisps with such a noticeable taste difference. Great review.
