Cornetto Enigma
Advantages tastes fantastic
Disadvantages the usual calorie and sugar content
While shopping the other day in Tesco I saw that Ben and Jerry's ice cream was half price so I decided to treat myself to a tub, but just as I was about to pick up my tub of Phish Food I noticed some boxes of Cornetto's that were on offer for just a pound so chose those instead!
I had recently seen the advert for the Cornetto Enigma on television - the one where the bloke turns into a giant teddy bear - and fancied trying them but previously had never seen them on sale. There were two choices of flavours and I decided to opt for the Chocolate and Caramel. The box is really eye catching as it looks quite luxurious in a dark chocolate brown colour and features two shots of the cornetto - one showing the caramel centre - surrounded by flowing golden caramel. The famous Cornetto logo is situated in the top left hand corner on the familiar red background which really stands out against the brown.Inside the box you will find four Cornetto ice creams, and the box states "Cornetto Enigma: Hidden heart, true pleasure". Each Cornetto is wrapped in a thick, shiny paper which is removed by pulling on the short tab and the paper will then unwrap. Though it is easy to unwrap the ice cream there is a risk of the bottom of the cone breaking off which I have done once or twice! The top of the ice cream is the same shape as an ice cream you would buy from the ice cream man, and for this reason it is protected by a plastic cone which comes off when the paper is removed.
The ice cream is a dark chocolate colour and has swirls of thick dark chocolate and topped with chopped nuts and chunky chocolate pieces. Underneath the ice cream you will find a soft caramel core which goes all the way down the cone and also has chocolate pieces inside. The ice cream is extremely creamy and the added touch of the caramel just enhances the taste even more and it really is very delicious and moreish! The cone is made from wafer and is extremely crunchy and only goes slightly soggy at the top where the ice cream meets the rim during eating.Cornetto Enigma nutritional information per cone:
Calories: 180At the moment Cornetto Enigma is on sale at the major supermarkets at a discounted price - Asda and Tesco currently £1. All in all I think these are one of the best ice cream treats I have come across and they are extremely indulgent and taste fantastic. Due to the nutritional content I would say these are best as a one off treat but that is easier said than done as they are so good!
