Aaaahhhh the 'Twister' perfect on a hot day at the beach or during a stroll through the park. It's just a shame there haven't been many of those days this year.... again.....Still that's Britain for you! And I did chose to live in Newcastle....
The twister has to be my all time favourite ice lolly and as far as I can remember this has always been so. I was amazed to see that this immensely popular ice-cream treat wasn't a ciao category recently, so I got it added and here it is!
******************** About the Twister ********************
The Twister was first introduced to the public in 1982 and apparently it is consistently a top seller. According the the 'chill out zone' (a kids website) the Twister is the fifth most sold hand-held
ice on the Wall's website following Magum Classic, Magum White, Callippo orange and Cornetto strawberry. When combined with the Walls Calippo together these two items make up nearly half of all kids products sold at Walls, which is pretty impressive.
According to the Wall's website the tropical fruit flavour of the Twister, was inspired by a schoolgirl's visit to the Gloucester factory courtesy of the BBC programme 'Jim'll fix it'. AAAhhhhh isn't that sweet!
************************* Appearance and Taste. *************************
The packaging is bright yellow with TWISTER written in big white letter, the red Walls logo and a number of spiralling twister shapes. It is very funky, colourful and modern as this product is primarily designed for children (but I bet a large proportion of those sold are consumed by adults!).
Obviously it is cold as it's frozen and it smells really fruity and delicious. There is a good amount of stick to hold for minimal mess but sadly there isn't a joke included.... most companies seem to have done away with this quirky addition these days which is a real shame.....
The Twister itself is traditionally a pinky-red colour in the centre with diagonal twisted green and cream coloured bands running around the edge. The pink centre is strawberry flavoured ice, the green edge is lemony-lime flavoured ice and the cream coloured twist is a creamy pineapple flavoured ice-cream. It is positively bursting with intense fruit flavour and I love to lick the pineapple ice-cream out of the twists first as this melts the fastest!
It is delicious, really fruity and really refreshing. It doesn't melt too fast, it is impossible to squash and hence break up like magnums, it isn't too sour, it isn't too sweet and it doesn't leave too much after taste in the mouth. I just love the contrast of ice and ice-cream together it works really well and it means you don't have to chose between the two.
In summary I love these and If you have never had one then I insist that you get out there and give it a try!
********************** Price and Availability. **********************
They are relatively cheap at around 70-80p per stick depending on where bought from and are available in most ice-cream vans (just listen out for the music!) and most shop ice-cream freezers or stalls. Mini twisters can also be bought in packs of eight at the supermarket although these are hard to find and I admit that I have never personally seen them although I have read about them on the internet.
According to the Wall's website there are NO artificial colours or flavours contained in Twisters which is excellent and makes them much more suitable for children. Additionally they only contain 58 calories per stick which is another bonus and means that they aren't too much of a sin like many similar products and they arn't too terrible for the teeth.
The Twister is part of Walls children's range. Walls are the leaders in manufactured ice-cream in the UK and are part of the multi-global company Unilever. If you would like to contact them about this product please go to their website for more information which can be found at http://www.unilever.co.uk/default.asp
All in all FIVE stars from me. What a great product!
yummy, my favourite bit is the red bit. if you ever go to france, I recommend buying an ice lolly that I think is called a twister, its TWICE as long as this one, and is red and yellow I think on a long wooden stick. If you like twister you'll love this, and its bigger!
