Due to the unexpected hot weather (yes, even in Manchester where it perpetually rains!) I decided to pop out of the office and buy something to cool me down.

In the corner shop I peered into the freezer cabinet and tried to decide what I fancied - chocolate covered ice cream just didn't seem thirst quenching enough, I wanted an ice lolly.

Tucked away at the side of the freezer was a small box containing Walls Twisters which were described as Pineapple ice cream with strawberry and lemon fruit ices. Yummy! And costing only 65p - Bargain!

***What does it look like***
The wrapper is bright yellow with cartoons of the ice lolly and twister written in white outlined in red, green and yellow. On the back there is a list of the ingredients in both English and Spanish and a table of nutritional information (again in both English and Spanish). The label tells me it contains real fruit juice (unfortunately from concentrate) and spinach extract, not something you would normally expect to see in a lolly.

The lolly itself looks fabulous, imagine a barbers pole with the red and white stripes, well it looks like that but yellow and green (the pineapple ice cream and the lemon fruit ice) and it has a red strawberry ice centre. The traditional wooden lolly stick running through the middle has the walls logo on either end.

***The test***
Was it going to be as good as I was anticipating?

I did a sniff test first but it didn't really smell of anything and I just ended up with a bit of lemon ice on the end of my nose. I wiped it off and prepared for the first taste. I decided to try and taste each individual bit separately and then try it all together.

I first tried the lemon ice. It has a very soft texture with a sharp tangy lemon taste, just what I needed to cool me down in a hot sweaty office.

Next was the pineapple ice cream. I was a little disappointed here at the taste as it didn't really taste of pineapple, but it was lovely. The ice cream was very smooth and creamy and had more of a lemony taste than anything else.

Now I needed to try and taste the strawberry ice without getting any of the other two flavours. How to do it? This seems a bit of complicated and the lolly is starting to melt.

I had to admit defeat and didn't manage to taste this separately from the other bits. This lolly melts very rapidly and it was in danger of falling off its stick so I had to move quickly on to stage 4, the combined flavour test, also known as eating the lolly properly.

Combined together the flavours go beautifully but do not cancel each other out. You get hints of lemon and strawberry (plus the ice cream which I still cannot put name to the flavour). All in all a marvellous creation that Walls should be proud of!

***Conclusion***
The next time you fancy an ice cream/lolly, give the Magnums a miss and try a Twister. It's definitely not the most natural and healthy ice lolly on the market but taste wise you will not be sorry!

I haven't had one of these for ages but I remember they are really nice and they aren't too bad on the old calorie and fat front either. Might have to investigate if they still do these in boxes of 6 x
