Review of Black Hawk Down (Superbit) by
ThePolarOne
Advantages: Superb action
Disadvantages: Politically and emotionally empty
Black Hawk Down (2001)
It’s 1993, Somalia, a large east African country. Delta Squad, one of America’s elite army ranger units, is preparing for a smash and grab mission to capture two high ranking enemy officials. To do so they must enter the most hostile district in the capital, Mogadishu. Over 100 troops enter the city by via armoured vehicle and black hawk helicopters. All is going to plan until a soldier is wounded and their progress slowed. ... ...the foot soldiers. When one Black Hawk is shot down they must move to help any survivors further complicating the operation. It quickly becomes clear that they will be stuck in these streets a lot longer than the planned half an hour. Ridley Scott (Bladerunner, Gladiator) directs the action – and there is an awful lot of it. For action junkies this is a pure shot of adrenalin, but others may find it too quick and to follow in the initial scenes of ...

Review of The Thin Red Line (Wide Screen) by
harlequin21
Advantages: Visually beautiful; emotionally raw and deep; stunning battle sequences; reflective and poetic
Disadvantages: An acquired taste
Nature and philosophy is the trademark of Terrence Malick. He artfully presented it in his two films of the 70s, Badlands and Days of Heavens, but retreated from the directing scene to go on a sabbatical which would last for twenty years. The Thin Red Line emerged in 1999, more visceral than any of Malick's previous work, presenting audiences with an artfully crafted, beautiful film. This was Malick taking his films to a more ambitious scale, taking ... ...viewer enjoys the film, it is not to be denied that the Thin Red Line is sheer film making genius. Retrieved by the army from the exotic island of Melonesia, deserter Private Witt (Jim Caviezel), a humanistic, thoughtful man, is transferred directly back to his previous outfit; Charlie Company. A wide array of men, all with their own issues, make up the unit. They are thrown directly into the 1943 battle of Guadacanal, a turning point in the war ...

Advantages: some superb airiel combat footage
Disadvantages: non really
The Blue Max, is in fact one of the Highest medals, issued to German war heroes.
In this film, a young poor, farm boy Bruno Stachel, (George Peppard) is already enlisted in the German army, as a front line foot soldier, with always one eye on the skies and his dream of becoming a pilot in the Luftwhaffe,
After doing so well as a soldier, Bruno is given the opportunity to join the German Air force, but finds it difficult to fit in with the educated ... ...and that is to become the best fighter pilot in the air, and gain the Blue Max.
Bruno does this by becoming a cold heartless and ruthless killing machine, even going behind enemy lines, to track and find the wreckage of an enemy airplane he has shot down, but no one witnessed.
Although equal to any man in the air, Bruno still cannot understand why he is frowned upon by his fellow pilots, What Bruno doesn't understand, is that these are men of honour, ...
