The Stuff Of Which Childhood Memories Are Made

Advantages: Fluffy, sweet slices, perfect "raw" or grilled
Disadvantages: Not suitable for most toasters and not as nice after freezing

...“round bread” was this one, Warburtons Blackpool Milk Roll which I think has now dropped the “Blackpool” in its name. I’m not sure why this became my loaf of choice – perhaps it was the fact that it was “local” for me, or maybe it was the novel shape – but loaf of choice it did become, and for many years it was the only brand I ate.

The loaves of this bread are shaped like barrels ...
...many ways from the other Warburtons loaves, this one does have one thing in common with them – it tastes of quality. The bread is soft and delicious, and opening the packed releases a just-baked aroma into the room. I detest cheap value loaves with which you realise exactly why they only cost 7p a loaf the second you bite in, but this is not like these in the slightest. The bread can be frozen, but I usually prefer to eat it in the first few ... more

Bread and Milk Combined

...one of my favourite breads, Warburtons Milk Roll, and it is this that I shall be reviewing today. When you see this on the shelf, something about it immediately catches your eye. It's not so much to do with the packaging - although this is quite striking in its own way - but more to do with the fact that the loaf is round and not square as you would normally expect. I don't think I've ever come across a round loaf before! This isn't the only thing ...
...red oval-shaped ring with the Warburtons emblem at the top. On either side of this is a pattern which looks like slices of the bread all lined up in a row. It is a golden-brown colour and looks very enticing. Both ends of the packet are light blue and have the word 'calcium' repeated over and over. Do you think they're trying to tell us something?! As you remove the sticky seal and open the packet, you are immediately met by a wonderful smell of ...

MILK MY LOAF

Advantages: tasty enough
Disadvantages: pricey

I’d seen Warburton’s milk roll before in my local Sainsbury’s but due to the smallish size and the largish price, I had always declined my temptation to make the purchase. However, on a recent trip to my local Sainsbury’s I spied a loaf that had been reduced from its usual 62p by a WHOPPING 20p leaving me to pay 42p! Now okay that might not count as bargain of the week, but at least it gave me a chance to try the product at a lesser price. Looking ...
...is anything but a loaf of bread. The unusual round shape of the loaf is far from the standard squarer shape of a normal loaf. The wrapping on the loaf is blue in the main with the word ‘calcium’ dotted on it, next is a ‘wooden’ effect background telling us a few details of the product. The product is made by Warburton’s who are a family business and in existence since 1876. So what’s different between the milk loaf and a normal loaf? Quite a bit ...
