You might ask why I am writing a review on a game/add on that is now over 4 years old, a virtual century in computer game production, especially when World of Warcraft has almost taken over the world in this genre.
Well, firstly, because I am still playing it, as that in itself is a mark of a great game, that people are playing it for years. Secondly, because the cult players are still making maps and modifications for the game which means it stays fresh.
What is it? For those that do not know it is a fantasy strategy game, an expansion pack to Warcraft 3, along the same lines as Command and Conquer and any other number of similar games. One plays a role, builds up forces and destroys other forces, yet it is so much more than this.
You play as one of four 'races'; Humans, Orcs, Undead, or Night Elves, and start with varying levels of 'bases' such as a town hall, you have to mine gold and chop trees to earn virtual credits which you then use to build more buildings, different types of characters, with different weapons. You can increase their weaponry, armour, buold 'hero's' that increase in strength, skills and spells (spells are fantastic) as they win battles. You can also 'buy' different spells, different hero's and fortify your buildings, it is a lot easier than it sounds.
All the races have distinct characteristics and nice humourous touches included in the voices and mannerisms, someone had great fun with this, there is also some 'hidden' little bits of humour which I wont spoil for you, find them for yourself, oh, okay here is one, find a cute little animal that is wandering, such as a seal and click repeatedly on it, for at least 20 times and see what happens.
The Game: You can play the campaign as each race, which is, as it sounds, a campaign, where you progress through story lines until (if) you make it to the end, quite tough, especially on the higher AI levels. Then when you have done that you can play a 'custom campaign'.
You can also play a 'custom game', my personal favourite, where you choose a map, AI level, number of enemies and simply go for it. This is where you can download any number of maps and modifications and enjoy new and different ways of playing.
The Graphics: Great, same as Warcraft 3 I have played this game on a 32 MB graphics card which played (just), anything above this is fine, and the graphics are bright and quite fun in a cartoon animated way, you can zoom right in as you are playing top down at a slight angle.
Sounds and Voices: Those that have read previous reviews of mine will know that I generally turn the music off as it is quite annoying and distracting, this is no different. As mentioned before the character voices are fun, any character clicked makes a response, click the same character and it responds again, some characters have about half a dozen responses, some are hilarious, such as the Human rifleman who says things like "wheres my drink" in a Scottish accent followed by "It's in my belly".
This add-on can be bought for a fiver now and it takesa minimum of 50 hours to complete all missions, that is without the 'custom' games and campaigns, so incredibly good value for money.
Multiplayer: More or less non existent now as everyone is playing World of WEarcraft so there is not much point in me reviewing this.
Requirements: - Warcraft 3 the original game, don't forget, this is an add-on. - 400 Mhz Pentium 2 (most people have a more powerful PC than this these days) - 128 MB of RAM - 8MB video card - 550 MB hard drive space - 4 speed CD-ROM
So basically any PC that is less than 5 years old should be able to run this adequatley.
Overall: Fantastic game combining role playing, strategy, fantasy and action, stands the test of time well, and I love the spells!
Great fun to play, some humour, lots of ways to play, different AI levels, play in the air on the ground, hide, run, attack, defend. If you like Command and conquer or that genre, an absolute must. Maybe the 'scope' of the envioroments are a little dated, but then maybe I am being too picky.

Review of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Expansion Pack (PC)
Advantages: Challenging, highly playable, good even for beginners, even experienced players will be delighted Disadvantages: Some would say short, however as an expansion it is one of the longest expansions sets I have seen
This expansion pack to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is a must get, for every player. Even if this is the first strategy game you have ever played, it will still satisfy your thirst for a good game. Although I could go on and talk about the graphics of this game, the sound, the storyline and such for a long time, I will instead focus mainly on the game and why it is as great as I claim.
The first time I got this game I was quite skeptical, I had ... ...Warcraft (as well as their expansion sets) and I must say that at the time, my expectations were not very high. In retrospective, although the games had a good story, one could not always draw the best strategy, or keep om playing over and over. The characters were pretty much the same on both sides, with only two races to choose, it made it boring after a while. However, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne is hardly a game that one would get tired of ...

...released an add-on, yay! If Warcraft 3 wasn’t enough for you, then this amazing add-on prolongs the great story. Warcraft 3: For those of you who have never heard of Warcraft 3 or the Warcraft series. Its basically a typical isometric view strategy game with the basic micromanagement for mining gold and chopping wood. Then you use the supplies to train units and build buildings before you go show the opponents’ ass the business end of ... ...open so there maybe a Warcraft 4. The game also includes two new races: as mentioned, the blood elves who are a lot like the humans with a few slightly different units. Also there is the Naga who are an original race as they are sea creatures so can build all their buildings on sea or land as well as being able to travel across both. There are a few new spells and units but I think the main reason for the add-on is for the new campaign (and what ...

Advantages: Well put together, excellent clarity Disadvantages: This game isn't meant to be enjoyed as such. It's meant to be played.
...room, I decided to purchase Warcraft III – and was completely blown away. Unlike Microsoft’s Age of Empires, which got tiresome after a short while, Warcraft III reached out to me on an entirely different level. Complete with high calibre graphics, excellent storyline and totally immersing qualities, it was natural that it would also be addictive.
That’s why, when news first came this year of an expansion to the series, in the form of Warcraft III: ... ...picks up almost exactly where Warcraft III ended, in terms of storyline. Moreover, it manages to integrate smoothness very effectively by stepping things up a notch in the interface department. Be warned however, players will require a good 3D graphics card and general all round modernness if they expect to have this baby run smoothly! It eats sizable chunks of computer memory.

Manufacturer's product description
Another welcome add-on pack for the popular PC fantasy strategy game, The Frozen Throne is a very generous extension to an already terrific title that simply begs to be bought. The new pack picks up with the single-player campaign where Warcraft III left off. It delivers an involving, gripping and long-lasting challenge, that's liberally littered with plenty of variety. Some missions require you to build up forces and go on the attack, while others will limit your units or bring in numerous armies to deal with and control. It's got a satisfying story arc and, except for the odd moment where it falls back on tried-and-tested formulas instead of pushing things on, The Frozen Throne is an outstanding success. The icing on the proverbial cake comes in the form of the multi-player options and support for clans and tournaments is very welcome indeed. They're customisable enough to keep things varied while ultimately getting you down to the game itself without much messing around. Most owners of Warcraft III are likely to pick this up anyway and they're not going to be disappointed. It's a great-value, enduring add-on and makes an already excellent game a whole lot better. --Simon Brew Following in the tradition of previous Blizzard expansion sets, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne provides gamers with a vast new chapter in the epic Warcraft saga. In the single-player campaign, players revisit the war-torn world of Azeroth. Several months have passed since Archimonde and the Burning Legion were defeated at the battle of Mount Hyjal, yet a new threat has arisen throughout the land. The evil Lich King Ner'zhul has been imprisoned inside the Icecrown glacier, deep within the arctic continent of Northrend. Although the former Orc Shaman lacks physical form, his soul lives on, forever seeking a means to escape his icy prison. As the saga continues, it is revealed that both the Night Elf renegade, Illidan, and the traitorous Death Knight, Arthas, seek the Icecrown glacier and the mysterious powers found inside. While it is uncertain as to what is being sought inside the icy tomb, players must traverse uncharted lands and battle treacherous new enemies to uncover the schemes of these nefarious beings, and save all of Azeroth from the forces of darkness.
