I have been a avid warhammer 40'000 (WH40K) player for several years and am of the opinion that it is one of the best tabletop games around, indeed the games-workshop range must be the best range of table top wargames. WH40K for those of you who don't know is a table top wargame based in the 41st millenium when a human imperium lead by a crippled god emperor is best on all sides by enimies ranging from the brutal orks, to the extra galactic tyrinids, then on to the insidious forces of Chaos as well as the hauty eldar and the upcoming Tau empire not forgetting the long dead Necrons and Heritics, fortunately the Imperium has a strong force of warriors on its side with the space marines and guardsmen.

One of the major things that attracts me to WH40K is it's strong sense of history or 'Fluff' by finding the correct siites or books you can learn about everything from the make up of an imperial guard regiment, to the fall of the ancient eldar and the Horus Herisy (the major event that shaped the imperium when one of the emperors most trusted sons Horus led fully half of the space marine legions in an uprising against the emperor that ended in the death of horus and the cripleing of the emperor).

The game itself is well designed and the rules are fair, meaning that with two players of equal ability no one army has an advantage, unless you want it that way as another great point about WH40K is its adaptability as indicated by the monthly magazine white dwarf wich releases extra opptional rules, in the rule book you are provided with a basc army list for the major races all of these are then backed up by army books or Codex's that provide all the infomatin you need to play the army properly as well as Codex's for armys GW have released extra codex's on specific campaigns, battlezone, and a combined codex called chapter approved wich provides additional rules for a veriaty of armys as well as additional army lists.

The rules are simple to learn but provide an unending source of discussion due to the fact that as you become more familiar with the game you are able to interprit the rules in different ways as well as come up with House rules to solve any problems that you encouter in the game.

WH40k has a huge fan base and the sheare no. of GW shops around the country and abroard will ensure that you will never run into a problem that cant be sorted out by popping down to your local GW or club and asking around, the atmosphere surrounding the game is friendly and people will always be willing to tell yo about the exploits of there army. such as the time when my.................
