The problem with UK pubs is that they don't, through either politics or consumer choice seem that open to new products from different suppliers. One beer, that is starting to buck that trend, however is Warsteiner, which happens to be my favourite boozy drink.

Warsteiner, as the name may give away, originates in Deutschland where it is called "the queen of beers" but don't let the feminine branding put you off. Warsteiner is a full 5% and is easier to knock back than fosters or stella. It has quite a strong flavour and if served on draught, is usually not too fizzy (depends on the pub you're in)

It's usually priced along the lines of stella or kronenburg if you can find it on draught. Alternatively a number of pubs sell it in bottles and it's normally served in a ponsy glass too! If you're ever in Dublin, loads of pubs there seem to sell it there so look out for it if you've had enough guiness

German beer is either cheap n cheerful (n not so good) or premium top drawer stuff. Warsteiner fits into the latter category at the higher end of it too. It's worth keeping your eye out for and having a sample, but I'd recommend this to anyone who likes a strong beer!

My boyfriend likes this beer a lot. I have never seen it in a pub but Sainsburys sell it - sometimes in cans and sometimes in bottles. It is still pricier that other beers. Sal x

Agreed. Very good stuff. I first drank it in Berlin and have looked out for it since though I've never seen it in England (except in bottles). Holiday resorts popular with Germans tend to do it as well for some reason! ;-) Good concise op there - just mind the odd typo. Prost! TT.
