The best decision I ever made

Advantages: Respected uni, close knit community, FUN FUN FUN
Disadvantages: Bubble atmosphere

...ended up picking up the warwick prospectus and giving it another look. Initially I had rejected it straight off as a campus uni. I'm originally from Liverpool even though I now reside in the Cotswolds, and the thought of being trapped in a bubble with one nightclub and everything and everyone in one place sounded like a nightmare. My vision of a campus was concrete with a launderette and a cafe and nothing else. I wanted a city uni, that was that, ...

THE COURSE

My course is biological sciences, therefore my experience is very different to someone doing say humanities. I will do my best to tell you what I do know about other subjects from the people who I know doing them.

Let The Good Times Roll.....

Advantages: Everything!!!
Disadvantages: Apart from the commercialism!!!

...years at the University Of Warwick were great - there was the obvious pyscho-partner issues, and the tension created by pulling numerous housemates, but on the whole it was a really wonderful time. Well, it's located near Stoneleigh, which is near Coventry, and therefore in the West Midlands. It was built in the 60s, and is therefore a mix of a modern Uni, and a red-brick one. The place is getting bigger each year, with constant building programmes, ...
...notice when you drive into Warwick Uni, is the sheer scale of the place - it has a very large campus, with lakes, and woods and acres of well-maintained grounds, all beautifully planted up. There is certainly a 'wow-factor' when you see it for the first time - compared with a lot of other Unis, it is a great sight. Warwick is very campus-based, which whilst appealing to most, may not be up everyone's street. There is virtually everything you could ...

Popular for so many reasons

Advantages: Great Union, societies, courses, facilities ... everything really
Disadvantages: You have to put Coventry in your address

...about to go back to Warwick for my 4th and final year at the place, after spending a year working in Brussels as part of my Politics with French course, and to be honest I can't wait! Obviously this opinion will be influenced by the fact that, knowing my luck, the Vice Chancellor will turn out to be a Ciao member who scours the opinions on Universities for any anti-Warwick material, but fortunately there's not really anything bad to mention. ...speakers of your studied language. Warwick also gives every student the opportunity to study a wide variety of foreign languages at its revered language school. On the whole, therefore, I would give the departments and courses the thumbs-up, although they can sometimes be rather disorganised from an admin perspective. But enough about studying. What about the real important stuff?! To put it simply, Warwick is rightly considered one of, if not, ...

No regrets

Advantages: Too many to list here
Disadvantages: None

After being here in Warwick University for a few years, I would like to share my experiences with others and hopefully will help you make a decision if you are going to university. Warwick University is always one of the Top 10 universities in UK. It is a relatively new university (just celebrated its 40 years anniversary in year 2005) but most courses and lecturers are of high standard. However, there are very limited courses on offer so it is ...
...about the courses from the warwick website or brochures. The university accommodation maintains a very high standard because during vacations, the student accommodation is turned into a conference park. In order to make money from the conference park, the university, or rather the accommodation office, has to make sure that the rooms are well-maintained. The en-suite rooms are expensive (about £90 per week) whereas the non en-suite rooms are just ...

Warwick is the best

Advantages: its the 5th best uni at the moment
Disadvantages: Its in Coventry.

Ive just graduated from Warwick in July 2003 after completing a degree in Sociology. There is a lot of competition for places at Warwick and it seems as though everyone you meet applied for Oxford or Cambridge and didnt get in. I wasn't one of them people however but I was so pleased to be offered a place there. There are roughly 16,000 students there but it really doesn't seem like it. Warwick also has the reputation for one of the biggest campuses ...
...uni starts a bit later than most and every academic year finishes at the end of June. Holidays are great, for Christmas we normally get a month off and for Easter it is normally 5 weeks of holidays. There are three terms a year, which are broken up into ten weeks so it makes it really easy to manage stuff in this time as you can time manage things on a week to week basis which makes it easy. I have to say I had an excellent time here, I didnt know ...

Warwick Uni - a guide

Advantages: Too many too mention
Disadvantages: Very few in my opinion

...soon either be heading to Warwick Uni, or seriously starting to look around for a years time, i would give a guide to the life you can expect when/if you join me there. Firstly, Warwick University is located just outside Coventry, and strangely enough, about a 30 minute drive away from Warwick. It is very central, think Birmingham and you would not be far off. I wont bore you with any of the academic statistics, as there are far too many and most ...
...Being a campus university, Warwick is easy to navigate and takes only a little time to get used to. It is a very friendly place, it is hard to explain but i would never feel threatened in any way even if i were to walk around in the dark at night. Indeed, there are always security parols driving around 24 hours a day and the introduction of security points along some of the darker roads puts your mind at ease. If you have a hobby, you will almost ...

Definitely not for me

Advantages: Nice looking department
Disadvantages: Too many to put here, read the article

After applying to, and being offered a place at Oxford University to read mathematics, I decided, on balance, that Warwick University maths department was better, so off I went. Everyone speaks highly of Warwick, it is, supposedly "the best maths department in the UK", and you will be hard pushed to find someone who doesn't think this. I do. I spent a very unhappy year at Warwick doing maths, and then changed course, and am a lot happier. The department itself is situated on a hill about 15 minutes walk from the University, which already separates the "mathematicians" from the rest of campus. The actual department looks quite pleasant, sort of average standard compared with the other departments I visited. Appearance isn't everything. Whilst I found the lectures to be well organised, the lecturers were confusing, arrogant and not ...

Dont expect it to be easy

Advantages: Warwick Uni & Students Union
Disadvantages: Don't excpect it to be easy! Climbing Gibbet Hill each morning.

The Maths Institiute has a pretty good reputation - mostly deserved. It does have high entry requirements, but that's because the course is very popular and you will need to achieve those grades to be able to survive! Everyone has their own tutor and supervisior - you'll see your tutor once a week in the first year for general problems and your supervisior twice a week to mark assessed work. It's a good system that allows you to know exactly how you're doing and get help when you need it. The Maths Institutue is on its own campus, shared with Biology, Statistics and the new Medical School, about ten minutes walk from main campus, but you get used to the walk through the woods! (All fully paved and lit, though) You're also studying at the University of Warwick with all its advantages... ...

Review of Warwick University (Faculties) - Maths

Maths is fun!

Advantages: Good standards, good buildings, good pastoral system
Disadvantages: High entry requirements

The maths department at Warwick is one of the best in the country - and it shows. Entry requirements for the course are amongst the highest in the country at AAB or equivalent A-level scores, plus a grade 2 in a level one maths STEP paper, but what this produces are sets of undergraduates all of exceptional ability and a real atmosphere of learning. The maths institute, renovated and extended a couple of years ago, is light, airy and boasts some of the best lecture halls on campus. The course is challenging but not so much that you get disheartened, and there is plenty of support available, with tutors, third- and fourth-year supervisors and, for the first week of the first year, second years available to help new students get orientated. The lecturers are for the most part excellent and generally seem interested in their subject; there ...
