Ive just graduated from Warwick in July 2003 after completing a degree in Sociology. There is a lot of competition for places at Warwick and it seems as though everyone you meet applied for Oxford or Cambridge and didnt get in.

I wasn't one of them people however but I was so pleased to be offered a place there. There are roughly 16,000 students there but it really doesn't seem like it. Warwick also has the reputation for one of the biggest campuses in Europe.

I started in October 2000 and this uni starts a bit later than most and every academic year finishes at the end of June. Holidays are great, for Christmas we normally get a month off and for Easter it is normally 5 weeks of holidays. There are three terms a year, which are broken up into ten weeks so it makes it really easy to manage stuff in this time as you can time manage things on a week to week basis which makes it easy.

I have to say I had an excellent time here, I didnt know what to expect especially as I live just outside London so it wasn't as lively as I thought it would be. However, the Student union is one of the biggest and they offer all types of entertainment for everyone. You can go out to the union every night and be offeed something different which is really enjoyable. I went to loads of things that I never imagined I would go to, and they are only the things that you wolud do whilst at uni.

Everyone is really really friendly and you will make friends in such a short space of time its amazing. I have friends who live here, Austria, Norway, Saudi to name but a few places. It also means I have loads of places to go on holiday!!! I was surprised by the ethnic diversity at the uni, you meet so many people from different countries and everyone has such different experinces that you learn loads from each other.

I have to say though that you cannot miss "One world week" even though I am not at uni anymore I am going back for this. It usually takes place in the second week of second term, it basically involves everyone on campus, everyone from different backgrounds get together and each day is dedicated to a continent. Eg: Monday is the Americas, Tuesday Africa and when you get to saturday there is just this massive party where everyone gets together. This is such an amazing time because everyone has the most fun at this time because you learn about so many different cultures.

Accommodation is good, I think the cheapest is £40 a week and the most expensive is £80. Internet access is now provided in all the rooms and it is T3 access which is super fast, there is also an internal file sharing system where you can get movies which havent been released yet. I saw the Hulk 3 months before it came out in the cinema over here. I suppose there are little perks for if you do not want to go to the union every night.

The teaching facilies are really good and the lecturers are really supportive, I had a few problems while I was there but they really are with you rathger than against you which I thought was really nice. Practically each department has its own building, so its nice and simple enough to find where you're lectures will be based. There is a really good library which is really well stocked, but my word of advice is when you get your reading lists to go and get all the readings in one go so you dont really need to bother looking for them again when everyone else wants them!
There are a really good range of courses on offer, it ranges from medicine to maths, from business to sociology, you should check on the website www.warwick.ac.uk to see the full range of courses they offer, but they do definately offer loads and lead in a lot of them.
The English department there is the best in the country, and the soicology department was the second best in the country so you really feel like you are getting some of the best teaching possible.

There are three campuses rolled into one, they are all walking distance, horrible in the winter though! There is westwood campus which is normally where students going into teaching have their lectures and stuff. There are also halls of residence there, which I had the pleasure of living in during my 1st yr, because it is not on central campus the rooms are a bit bigger and I had a really nice room as a result. It was a bit isolated there though. Then there is central campus, which has everything on it, including the Piazza where everyone congregates, especially in the summer. Its really nice to just sit there and watch the world go by! And then there is Gibbet Hill campus for those doing Medicine and Maths. At the moment however they are moving maths and medicine to central campus in a lovely snazzy building. There are also plans to put a second Piazza out there too, you lucky people.

Coventry is a little bit dodgy so I would recommend being vigilant when out and about there. But Leamington Spa is brilliant because so many students live there it has a really friendly atmosphere and it is a really nice place to hang out. I lived there in my second yr, its 10 miles away from uni, but by car its not too bad but on the bus it does take a while.

When you live out in your second yr I would recommend you go throuught the university as they make sure their houses are safe for students. I rented from a local agent in leamington spa and ended up with an inflammation in my ribs because the house we had was so damp.

Its got everything on the campus, there have been times where I didnt leave the campus for weeks on end, purely because I didnt need to. There are restaurants, laundrettes, bars, costcutters, post office, banks, hair dresser, travel agents, pharmacies, doctors, dentists, printing shops and stationery shops. And if that wasnt enough right on the edge on the campus there is a Tesco if you're feeling adventurous, which is open 24hrs so you can go there drunk after union events. YAY!!

Oh just quickly I would like to mention the lakes, possibly the most beautiful thing about Warwick. They have had three manmade lakes built at the back of the campus, and it has geese and swans and ducks, its really nice to sit there too on a hot summers day, especially when are exams are over.

I cant think of anything else, if anyone wants to know more leave a message in my guestbook and i'll add to this.

24 hr Tescos......how important to student life were they!?!? There was one on the edge of my old campus, on the way to where we lived at uni......it was vital to our survival at night!! Dan

Re-rated with pleasure. This is now much more informative; my only suggestion for further improvement would be to use headings and (a bit nit-picking, I know) use a spell check of some kind to pick up little errors that it's easy to miss. Good luck in the future! All the best - Cate
