In order to keep on top of the mail and the stock I use bar coding. Bar coding helps me keep a track of all orders and run a successful business. I bar code almost everything. Products I sell have bar codes on them as most products nowadays have. These are scanned and recorded as I enter the items into my stock and as they are sent to my customers. With all orders there is an invoice. Again I bar code the invoice by printing out a bar code label and sticking it to the invoice. ...to pack in a proper CCD (Cold Cathode) lamp AND a film scanner into the lid. An optical resolution of 1200 x 2400dpi promises good quality. And somehow, it costs just £59.95 including VAT. Always one to buy the 'top of the range' I was seriously sceptical about buying this scanner. Yet I had been advised that it was worth investigation. So, I went ahead and bought this machine from a retailer that I trust - John Lewis. In this case, I used JL Direct - their price was the best, and even beat Dabs and Amazon by about £5. When I unpacked this scanner I was very pleased with what I discovered in the box. Build quality looked good - the scanner had a weighty feel to it, and the styling wasn't as 'garish' as I had expected. ...The HP ScanJet 8300 is a Professional Image Scanner from HP's Scan jet series. This is one of the top end Scanners HP manufacture and is ideal for the business domain. There is also an 8300gp model of this scanner which is a Graphic Arts scanner and has a monitor color-meter calibrator as a added feature ideal for graphic designers. Now about the HP ScanJet 8300, the scanner has an OR (Optical Resolution) of 4800x4800dpi and will scan high dynamic range in 48bit colour. This is fine for transparency and negative scanning. The scanner has a max reflection area of around A4 size. HP includes film holders which will hold 3 strips, 6 frames of a 35mm film. The holders can be placed in the base of the scanner for storage.
