I liked the first Waylander novel... I liked the second more. The third and final installment of David Gemmell's Waylander series is by far the best yet!
The story picks up a few years after the Waylander II and Waylander has become a rich land-owner who just wishes to be left to his own devices. That doesn't mean he has become a slouch, however, and with an attack on one of his charges' farms Waylander is reborn. And just in time too, as banished ... ...of the humans.
This time Waylander isn't alone though. He has assistance from the girl he rescues who is quite adept with kitchen knives, a swordsman and a ditch-digger as well as a mysterious priestess with more about her than she is letting on.
As a final story to complete the trilogy, Gemmell manages to end the story plausibly and completely. Allowing no way for there to be a Waylander IV, but it such a way that it is completely satisfying.

Advantages: Outstanding characters and excellent plot Disadvantages: Closely tied to earlier novels.
...have read the previous two Waylander novels. You will regret not reading them first.
With that out of the way, this novel is on par with the brilliance of the first Waylander novel and contains scenes that rival the excellent opening of that first book.
Gemmell has an excellent sense of style, a certain elan that gives his work a compelling quality. His writing style is economical, letting events speak for themselves rather than leading the reader ... ...sense of closure to the waylander series of novels and does stand well on its own as a seperate book, but is simply stunning when taken as part of the trilogy. Any who enjoys the work of Gemmell will love this...those who are new to his works however are recommended to start with Waylander or Legend rather than this... ...
