I've been slowly working my way through this series and Waylander is quite clearly the best character Gemmell has come up with to date. The character has everything about him that makes an engrossing story. He is in a way an Anti hero as he fights his way through the lands of the Nadir and despite all adversity still seems to be able to rise to any challenge.

This time it's Waylander with the price on his head and several of the most ruthless killers in the land are on Waylanders trail.
this is yet another epic tail from the British master of heroic fantasy, just as gritty and hard bitten as the first, in the realm of the wolf sates any appetite hungry for more of the coolest figure in the fantasy genre. It stirred every emotion I have and that in a single book story is rare.

Waylander II, In the realm of the wolf is the continuing story of the best of fantasy’s anti-heroes, Waylander the Slayer!
Sorry, feel the need to apologise for the opening paragraph, but Gemmell is so good at the fantasy stuff, you feel yourself getting carried away!
This book continues the story of Waylander after he fell off the face of the earth at the end of Waylander. To briefly explain, Waylander is an assassin, but he wasn’t always so, ... ...and in doing so became Waylander the Slayer.
Waylander is now living in the mountains of Skeln with his adopted daughter Miriel (his wife Danyal is dead, and his other adopted daughter has married and moved away). Waylander has become Dakeyras again, and no longer kills for money, however when someone takes a contract out with the Guild of Assassins for his death, it is only a matter of time before Waylander the Slayer rises from the dead.
