Botanical Birmingham

Advantages: Plenty to see, a relaxing escape from the city.
Disadvantages: Expensive for a one-off visit. Disappointing restaurant.

Every city need its green spaces. The architecture may be spectacular and the shops fantastic, but finding a place to escape the traffic and bustle is a necessity for most city dwellers. Picture Birmingham and what do you see? The Bullring, New Street Station and Spaghetti Junction would be the first things that come to my mind. Although I've never lived in Birmingham itself, I worked there for several years. During that time I went to the Botanical Gardens regularly, but for the purposes of this review I will focus on my most recent visit which was August 2008. A Brief History Celebrity gardeners are not a new phenomenon. In the nineteenth century J.C Loudon was an influential writer on gardening and became part of London's high society. He designed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in 1830 to provide a place where keen ...

Lethal Weapon

Advantages: great action and entertainment
Disadvantages: none

the death of his wife. Riggs is an expert at many things, including shooting and martial arts, and with his violent nature he is considered to be a 'Lethal Weapon'. With Murtaugh deliberating whether Riggs is actually insane or just trying to play the police system it is not long before he realises which it is?. As the dynamic duo dig further into the apparent suicide they soon realise that they are becoming involved in more than they bargained for? including Heroin smuggling, army special forces and a rather bizarre blond man named Mr Joshua, (played by Gary Busey). **SOUNDTRACK** 1. Amanda 2. Meet Martin Riggs 3. Roger 4. Coke Deal 5. Mr. Joshua 6. They've Got my Daughter 7. The Desert 8. Nightclub 9. The Weapon 10. Theme From Lethal Weapon **IN CONCLUSION** A great entertaining movie right from the start ...

Review of Lethal Weapon (DVD)

Lethal Weapon

Advantages: Buddy movie; humour; Gary Busey; stunts
Disadvantages: The Sequels that followed

Some movies just don't seem to age at all, and despite Gibson's trademark 80's mullet Lethal Weapon is one of them. This is not your typical Schwarzenegger-esque blow-shit-up-just-for-the-sake-of-it action movie, followed by a host of witty one liners (which I still love by the way); this is actually a respectably paced movie about two mismatched cops, whose irreconcilable personalities are interestingly developed throughout. The stunts aren't half bad either (definitely no CGI here). Danny Glover is the safe, no nonsense cop, Roger Murtaugh, on the verge of retirement, who has a nice family and nice home to be proud of. On the contrary, Mel Gibson stars as Martin Riggs, a cop on the edge after the recent death of his wife, who no one wants to work with- he is the "lethal weapon", trained in martial arts and ais n expert in ...
