Spysweeper can be bought boxed from a shop, or as in my case, downloaded from the webroot web site. There is a facility on the web site for you to run a free scan of your computer to detect any adware you may have, although to clean your computer properly, you need to buy the software. Do you realise when you connect to the internet, you open a door to the rest of the world? Of course you do! Why else would you use the internet?
Do you realise that every time you connect to the internet, you open a door for others? Probably...
But do you know what could be creeping into your computer whilst your browsing the net? Maybe not!
And this is where the problems start!!!
Whenever you download a program, wether it be a desktop wallpaper or a system check utility, you open a door most people are not aware of (unfortunatly) to whatever site you have connected to and in return for your...shall we say...'custom', you are rewarded by a cookie (small piece of software) that resides in your computer and sends back (mostly) marketing information to the site / server you recently visited! These are known as 'ad and spyware' and can be thought of as someone following you around wherever you go watching what you do. These are very unwelcome and dangerouse cookies can corrupt a computer if not dealt with! Please don't be fooled and mistake anti-virus software for ad and spyware software. Most packages don't incorporate ad and spyware and it has to be bought as a seperate package. Allow me to give you an example of what I mean.. Yesterday, I saw a pop up ad that had a VERY nice screen saver that when it kicked in on your computer, created moving images as though you were looking out of a window rather than a computer monitor. I thought it looked great and downloaded the screen saver.

I have to date, found 5, 323 ad and spyware cookies on my computer from most of the sites I visit. Not only does spysweeper tell you the names of the adware it finds, you also have the facility of checking the adware on the webroot site and finding more information on it! This I think is a great touch as it helps you uderstand more the dangerous world of adware and spyware.

Spysweeper also has a good selection of submenus incorpirated into the program so you can have spysweeper running the way you want it ( by this I mean, start up when windows starts, run in the background, activate or de-activate shields, check for updates both in the program and definitions, and is overall easy to use if you have never used a spysweeper before). I give this a good 8-9/10 and won't use the internet without it.
*NOTE* Please forgive the long windedness of this review, but it is intended for those who are unfamiliar with spyware packages as well of those of you who may have used these before.

It has what Webroot call "Active Shield Technology" which in laymans terms means it monitors your internet sesions and removes pests before they even have a chance to become resident on your system. Active shields also monitors for unauthorised access to the net by programs and changes to the homepage by hijackers, all these processes are stopped and you are warned of the occurance.
The program self updates twice every week to automatically ... ...far as I am aware this program does not interfere with any legitimate processes, firewall technology or antivirus software.
The support offered for this program is fast, friendly and comprehensive, although anyone with a little PC knowledge would have no need to ask for support, such is the ease of setup and use. ...webroot. i bought webroot packaged in the shops you can buy webroot from most wholesale stores such as woolworths or you could go to a specialist in computing such as pc world. if you think you dont have spyware you may as well still check it out on the website as it has a facility that tells you if you have spyware.
webroot checks all your files and temporary internet folders for spyware and anything else that could be harmful. you can then chose ... ...easy to use. you must have this programme or a similar one if you use the internet (think of it as you dont know whos watching you and where there watching you from). overall this is exceptionally easy to use and i would give this programme 9 if not 10 out of 10. i use this on a daily basis and would not think of not having it. sorry for being so long but this is important and i am thinking of those who have not yet used this sort of programme. goodbye ...

Several months ago, I had a severe problem with viruses on my computer. severely hampering Internet use. Upon looking into it I discovered these things called adware and spyware. Norton seemed unable to deal with or remove these viruses.
After browsing the web as best I could there seemed to be no cheap or available product within this country that was able to help. Desperate measures were called for and a trip to PC World seemed the only choice, ... ...I found it difficult to find anything, but then, in a corner - on the bottom shelf was the virus section. After scanning through, the 20,000 available Norton products, there was a product called Spy Sweeper. This seemed to be the only software that dealt with my problems and pinpointed Spyware and Adware.
It was also the cheapest and seemed to be a bargain at £20. I know there are three downloads but how reliable our they and do they offer online ...
