A heart warming book by a well known children's author
STORY AND ILLUSTRATIONS
We start with a lovely double page spread showing a lake, and close to the lake, surrounded by reeds is a little blue egg, which holds Webster J Duck "all folded up so he could fit inside".
When Webster stirs, the egg begins to crack, and out he comes- actually he falls out. Undeterred, he stands up, and so begins his quest to find his mum. He wanders ... ...large and friendly looking dog, Webster of course, quacks. In reply, the dog goes "Bow- wow". On the strength of this and being an intelligent kind of chap, Webster J Duck deduces that the dog is not his mother because of course, his mum would make the same sound as him. He does however now think of the dog as the Duck with the waggledy tail.
In this way, he meets a sheep, and a cow. The sheep, in Webster's mind, becomes the woolly duck and the ...

Advantages: Non stereotypical fairy tale Disadvantages: nothing
...is black, and there are trees all around so we get a real feeling that he is indeed in a dark forest.
Throughout the book, the text fits around the illustrations so there is plenty for children to look at and comment upon. Little miss is always fascinated at how tall the princess grows "much taller then her daddy".
