St Brides the Wedding Cake Church

Have you ever wondered how the tiered wedding cake came about? Look no further than the distinctive spire of St Brides just off Fleet Street. An 18th century baker William rich used the three tired spire as inspiration in a range of wedding cakes and it has became the standard ever since. However there is so much more to this delightful little church which I often visit to get away from it all. Saint Bride's has a long and interesting history. Named after Saint Bridget, a 5th century Irish saint who turned well water into beer (a nice party trick me thinks and always a welcome guest) there has been at least been seven church buildings on the site since Saxon times. Or decorate with ribbons, fresh flowers, plastic bride and groom; the only limit is your imagination. * * * WEDDING LIST * * * I always hated the idea of demanding a list of presents but it saves so many repeated conversations and receiving loads of crap. Its becoming more and more normal for couples to request money - but some guests still do not feel comfortable with this. Not only does it serve the purpose of a songbook, but also acts as a complete resource for planning wedding music. Secondly, there is a myriad of songs which gives you the liberty to pick and choose. As compilation CD's go, this one surely falls in an above average category. The collection varies from traditional sacred songs to classicals varying from Wagner, Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons', Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, and a long list of other ever-green composers.
