Whilst I am not an avid dieter, or a weightwatcher participant (though I do watch my weight), I sometimes eat weightwatchers products. This seems like the easy option sometimes when I can`t be bothered to cook (weightwatchers ready meals) or when I don`t fancy nuts as a snack (cookies). Of course it doesn`t excuse all the other times when I eat loads of chocolates and biscuits. Well, it is better to be careful for some of the time than not at all.
I like biscuits, I will try anything once, so I thought I may as well try these cookies. I was drawn to the word chocolate (in fact it says choc), or even better, double.
I could go into the history of weightwatchers, the diet, the company and everything else, but at the end of the day, for a biscuit, all I want to know is, does it taste good?, does it dunk well?, is it really double choc?
and is it really a diet biscuit?
so:-
The Taste. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Not bad, not my favourite. It tastes quite good but the cookies are quite thin. As for double choc, the little chocolate balls are quite lonely and isolated. I do prefer to call them balls, they are not really chips. They may as well be called double chocolate ball cookies meaning literally, 2 chocolate balls in each cookie. I think I have counted 4 in some, but they are certainly not bombarded with chocolate balls. That is as far as I would go with regards to the double chocolate. The cookie almost tastes as it the chocolate is rationed, that is how it is diet I guess. They dunk OK, but being thin and not exactly densly packed, the dunkability is not fantastic. They do dunk though, but they are far from achieving status on my top ten dunkers list.
Calories. ^^^^^^^^^^
I don`t really understand the weightwatchers points system and as already explained, I am not going to learn it to put in the review. Each 2 portion cookie apparently is worth 1.5 points though. Each 2 cookie portion contains 102 calories which is more my language. However, it is no good eating diet biscuits if you are going to eat more than the recommended portion.
Packaging. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I am not going to explain the box, as you can see it from the picture. It is the invisible, inner packaging that I am more interested in. Of course, the inner packaging isn`t invisible, you just don`t know what is in it until you open it. Basically, the cookies are contained within plastic packaging, 2 cookies in each. In total there are 6 of these. The advantage of the packaging is, the cookies remain fresh until each individual pack is opened. Good I hear you say. Well yes but:- What happens if you only want to eat one?!? or at the other end of the spectrum What happens if you want to eat 12?
Well who is going to eat 12? They are very thin.
All I am trying to say here is, the packaging can be rather wasteful. It is fantastic if you are going to take 2 to work in your packed lunch box every day. I for one, am not very good at this, they would be gone long before lunchtime and two wouldn`t e enough.
For those sticking to the Weightwatcher diet and have 2 at a time, this would be a great idea.
Will I buy again? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Maybe, maybe not, I certainly wouldn`t go out of my way to buy them. They are 10p more than the Maryland cookies at 75p. The Maryland double choc cookies are 65p and from tomorrow at Tesco, they are buy one get one free until the 29th of the month. I know which ones I will buy if I buy any cookies. In my opinion, the Marylands are much nicer and far better at dunking. I think if I were following a diet, I may buy them more often. I find it better to eat healthy food rather than try to eat `diet` biscuits. Once I have eaten one biscuit, I have eaten 6, not a good idea. It is better for me to avoid them altogether (except sometimes when I binge). I cannot eat in moderation (cookies, chocolate, biscuits).
The weightwatchers cookies have a place in the kitchen of someone following the diet and able to stick to it. For a diet biscuit, they are acceptable, but from a personal point of view, I would rather eat chocolate cookies with 20 chocolate balls as well as being smothered in chocolate, everynow and again.
I almost forgot, the cookies are made with finest ingredients and have no artificial additives.
They are also available in:- strawberries and cream ginger and lemon
