Wella ShockWaves is the UK's number one styling brand, offering a wide range of products aimed at a predominantly youth market as the advertising tends to feature young fashionable people with directional looks and hairstyles, although whether you're 17 or 71 this is a fantastic value styling range. Wella describes ShockWaves products as offering 'Maximum Impact with Minimum Fuss'. Moussing Wax is indeed a product that is easy to use, producing effects as subtle or dramatic as you like within a matter of seconds.
ShockWaves products are divided into four colour-coded ranges which the consumer is intended to mix and match to fulfil all their styling needs; these are Strong (pink), Ultra Strong (purple) , Curl (green) and Shine (yellow). Strong and Ultra Strong are, unsurprisingly, products intended to help sculpt your hair with glue-like holding power, whilst Curl products are intended to either tame or enhance curly locks, and Shine products are meant to give your hair a high-gloss, high-impact look.
Moussing Wax does exactly what it does on the tin - it shines, defiines and texturises just like a wax, but comes in the easy-peasy form of a mousse. The product is applied to dry hair, and is ideal for separating individual strands, for example producing a dramatic fringe or spiking the ends of a ponytail. It also can be used to add definition to curls or for general styling purposes as it has a strong-hold formula. However you use it, the product will make your hair shine; and a little goes a long way. Shockwaves products apparently have a 'Micro-Diffuse' Formula that means that the product is applied evenly over the hair without over-loading it, but I personally went a bit over the top the first time I used this product and found myself with the top of my head so shiny you could see your face in it, leaving me feeling greasy rather than gorgeous. Practice, however, makes perfect, and I've found the product to be very effective if used in moderation. The can does, after all, tell you to dispense a SMALL ball of the mousse into your hand; think small as in the size of a plum, not a large orange..... Shake the can well before use or you'll be squirting a sticky liquid onto your hand rather than a mousse. The formula itself isn't overly sticky unlike some products, although you still might want to give your hands a wash after use or your crisps might taste funny.....
ShockWaves Moussing Wax smells absolutely lovely, with a sweet scent that gets me salivating every time, and leaves your hair with that just washed hair until, well, the next time you wash it. The product is washed out very easily and does not irritate the scalp or damage the hair in any way.
The packaging of the product is very stylish; a metallic blue aluminium can about six inches high with a small blue plastic lid. The can features the black, white and pink ShockWaves logo as well as the name of the product contained within a yellow box - yellow being the signature colour of the 'Shine' range. On the back of the can is a description of what the product is intended to do, plus instructions for use including a small diagram of how to dispense a ball of mousse onto the palm of your hand - perhaps not rocket science, but a job made easier thanks to
Wella's nifty illustration. The pump is very easy to use, dispensing the mousse cleanly rather than splattering it around your house. The can is pressured and therefore highly flammable, so follow all the usual guidelines and avoid smoking whilst using the product, and don't leave it anywhere where it might get subjected to extreme heat.
Wella ShockWaves is a great range and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to play with their hair or simply wants to add a little pizzazz to a tried and tested 'do. The beauty of the products lies in the fact that they are so cheap, retailing at approximately £3 each but frequently available on special offers - when I purchased this product in Boots you could buy any 2 Shockwaves products for £3 - bizarrely, cheaper than buying one product! I highly recommend Moussing wax for anyone who wants to add a little shine and glamour to their life; and the ShockWaves range in general for anyone - and that includes you, boys! - who wants to look good, feel good, and smell damn near good enough to eat!
