I bought the OEM version of this product, which therefore meant in came in very simple packaging with no instruction manual. Fortunately, I did not need this and therefore doesn't bother me too... more

Advantages Advantages Low power, Less heat, big storage

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Low RPM (Speed)

This internal drive is by far the most reliable and affordable storage drive in the market. I had TWO of these 500Gb drive for movie storage in my Home Theatre PC Rig. Features & Specs This drive is a Low Power consumption device. It saves around 40% less power requirements than any other drive. So customers who are so concious in energy saving should buy this product. This 3.5" drive uses SATA interface up to 3 Gb/second transfer rate with an average latency of 5 ms. The speed varies from 5400 to 7200 rpm at a 16 Mb cache. But in my opinion, this drive would more likely to run in 5400 rpm ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast and cheaper than others

Disadvantages Disadvantages can always be cheaper

The perfect gift for your Windows vista, oh how this will breathe new life into your commputer. This drive scores 5.9 in the windows vista experience rating, the highest posible score!!! The latency and size of this hard drive is competitive in terms of price with other brands but this drive is generally faster than its competition. Its even a bit cheaper than the others. My experience with this hard drive has been a pleasure over others iv had and tested. Boot times dont just depend on fast cpus and RAM as the biggest bottleneck in PCs are the hard drive. For this reason it is important to ... more

Advantages Advantages Great speed, great storage space, low price, stability

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little hot, A little noisy

I used many Hard Drives drives until this one and I'm finally satisfied. As a multitasking user i open many programs at the same time: antivirus, internet, multiple downloads, winamp and even gaming at the same time and often I even game sometimes and this hdd really does a good job. The 500GB (470 Gb actually) are sufficient for storage and comes at a very decent price. The wd are really reliable , I had a small problem but it was my fault, I've insanely overclocked the processor and I the hdd drive partitions didn't appear. I've recovered eventually the data without loss. It works still ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick, reliable, cheap and lots of space

Disadvantages Disadvantages The OEM unit comes without SATA cables or screws.

I bought the OEM edition, that is an original equipment manufacturer version. These do not come in a retail box and have no accessories with them. The actual hard drive itself is strong, well built and reassuringly heavy. This is a SATAII Hard drive but since i had an asrock dual-vsta motherboard i was hoping it would be suitably backwards compatible with SATA1 standards of 150mbps theoretical bandwidth. I had no need to change any jumper settings to enable the device to work in SATA1 mode and my motherboard recognised it straightaway. Item Specifics: Build Quality: Strong, heavy, silver/black ... more

5 Stars Quick review of Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500 GB by LRDMan 08/04/2008
Having used Western Digital before, I had very high expectations when I bought one of these drives. Thankfully, my expectations were met! Previously, I had a 36GB Raptor as my primary drive, storing my OS, Apps and Games, allowing for very fast loading times. Raptors were some of the fastest drives in the world, but were limited by their small capacity. In the new generation of hard drives, this limitation has been removed - my new 500GB Western Digital drive is actually fast than the old Raptor, with more than 10 times the capacity, all for the same price! The new ... more
