Advantages: Fast, reliable & high size. Disadvantages: Over heated alot when put threw its paces.
...this drive as I trust western digital as all my drives but 1 or 2 are all there brand and with no issues. However, apart from the high capacity, the speed it offers & technical support with some utility tools on WD website, I must rate this as adequate.
The reasons are.
Due to the high storage size, the head it generates is much higher than most hard drives. I was currently decoding & re encoding audio to video on the drive where it suddenly froze.. ... ...minutes it would not show in boot up & really slowed down the boot up process because if it.
The reason I found out was, it really overheated. Now, hard drives do overheat if you don’t keep them clean & maintained, such as disk keepers & so forth to keep the drive running in its prime. But its new, so this was not the cause. It was just generating a lot of heat when put threw its paces as encoding does.
So, I had to purchase a cooler for it & so ...

Manufacturer's product description
Cool-running, quiet operation, superior performance and industry-leading reliability make these next-generation WD Caviar SE drives the perfect hard drives for desktop and enterprise storage. WD, the first to introduce an 8 MB buffer, has advanced the caching algorithms of this new and improved Caviar family of hard drives, resulting in next-generation high performance - performance that matches the speed of most 16 MB cache drives. Heat is a major contributor to hard drive wear, and cool drive operating temperatures help increase long-term drive reliability. WD achieves the lowest operating temperature of any hard drive in it's class, including slower drives spinning at 5, 400 RPM, by lowering the drives' power consumption through advanced design of electronics and firmware. Today's PCs, digital video recorders and gaming machines are increasingly operated in environments where noise is less tolerated. WD minimizes WD Caviar noise to levels virtually below the threshold of human hearing with its WhisperDrive technology, which features a highly efficient power driver design. And to cut seek noise, Soft Seek technology streamlines read/write seeking algorithms, resulting in the drive operating more efficiently when accessing and writing data.

What is there to really say about hard disc drives? Well that depends on your audience I suspect.
Oh yes, yes it does.
If I were talking to a bunch of tech-heads (bless our geeky hearts), I would say this;
This is a standard SATAII device that... more
I've actually just reviewed the 200gb version of this disc drive.
I currently have 2 western digital hard drives in my PC, one of them is this one and the other is a 200gb version of this.
The reason I have two of these is simple - its because they more
I am currently in the middle of an 'upgrade everything on my PC' phase, and the latest thing to get the treatment was the hard drive. I decided that I would get another hard drive and add it as a companion to the existing one to save messing around with... more
I have to say, this is the purchase of the year!
I got it about 3 months ago for about £50, and it has replaced my old 80gb hard drive I used to have.
The drive itself is very easy to install. Your standard IDE cable (the thin long one) goes in to... more
