Manufacturer's product description
Add this unique remote-access storage system to your wired or wireless network and you'll have a surprisingly simple and secure way to access and share data and photos at home, in the office, and anywhere in the world - even when your local computer is off.
Advantages: Cheap for a NAS. Looks good in the living room. Disadvantages: Sells it with remote access but the access is limited.
...will need to install the software.
But it is not perfect. In their infinite wisdom, Western Digital have decided that you will not be able to access certain licensed file type (MP3 being the most obvious example) using the remote access software.
Although I have not had any experience of the problem, another review elsewhere has reported problems with the device not picking up an IP from the DHCP server. If you don't ever turn it off this shouldn't be a problem though.
The device also has a USB port on it but this can only be used to attach an external HDD for extra storage. It would have been nice if this could have been used to attach it directly to a PC but at this price you can't have everything.
At around £135 it is very cheap for a NAS device, you'd be hard pressed to find a 500GB drive on its own for that price. Overall I am happy...

Advantages: Large capacity, quiet when not in use Disadvantages: Can in noisy when in use
...easier.
The power supply is a little bulky but comes with quite a long cable. The bulky shape of the power supply is the only problem I have, though it’s only a minor complaint.
On the whole, it is a very nice addition to my computer setup. The only problem I have now is; now it is full and I need another one! I’m now looking at the sister model; the Western Digital My Book Premium Edition, but this time I’m going for the 500gb, just in case....

Advantages: don't know - can't power up Disadvantages: don't know - can't power up
...It's a nice looking box; however the Iomega service rates at 0/10. I have purchased my Iomega NAS 400m second hand which voids the warranty. The box got a bit of damage during shipping and as a result the power button in the front broke off (it appears to be a common problem for these servers - I've seen two other ones with a similar problem). I have contacted the Iomega technical support in order to purchase a new power button, but it turns out I cannot buy from them because my warranty is void. So now I have an Iomega paper weight. To add an insult to injury, they have offered to sell me a new Iomega NAS unit (so instead of paying a few dollars for a simple power button I should spend thousands and buy a new unit - right)....

The hard drive is meant to be used internally but I use mine as an external hard drive with an USB external enclosure. The drive might not be the fastest around but it is fast enough to use for those large files that makes life difficult. The fact that... more
This hard drive is very similar in look and feel to the other Passport versions that Western Digital has, in particular the Book with a glowing yellow circle that is very nice to look at and quite heavy to boot.

I personally bought this drive as I am a gamer and as fellow gamers know the faster the better.
My previous drive was a 7200rpm and boy did I notice the difference in speed once I started using the raptor. Faster access to my programs and files,... more
Fairly decent hard-drive.
Western Digital are a well trusted company, especially for computer equipment. 250GB is a massive storage device, you could store ALOT and with low power consumption makes it even better. Looking at the prices too this is a... more
