The Searchers is widely recognised as one of the best westerns ever made and rightly so. It is set in Texas in 1868 at the end of the Civil War, A war that John Wayne Known in the film as Ethan Edwards took part in, the Film opens with him returning to his brothers farm from the war.
The scenery at the start of the film is breathtaking and is seen from the opening of a door and it seems to be emphasising the harsh and dangerous environment of Texas ... ...story of the film is the search for Ethans neice Debbie who has been kipnapped by Indians under a Chief called Scar who also killed his brother and the rest of his family including Martha who it seemed Ethan had feelings for.
He is accompanied on the journey by a company of Texas Rangers but by the first year it is just Martin Pauley who is Ethans adopted nephew and Ethan that are left in the search as Brad was killed after charging into indians ...

IF YOU LIKE JOHN WAYNE FILMS OR WESTERNS THIS IS A GREAT FILM TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION. U.s. marshal cahill has two sons who are left to there own devises and end up in big trouble with some real bad guys. the marshell is hopeing thay will tell him whats going on. he ends up getting a friend to help him catch the bad guys and to teach them a lesson. and it works .this is the film when john wayne says the famous words ( GET OFF YOUR HORSE AND DRINK ...

True Grit is one of the more well know John Wayne films, this is actually one which I have heard of!!! For the second night running my husband got me to sit through one of his films, hope he does not think this is going to be a regular thing as it would take months to get through his collection.
This is one of John Wayne's later films where he is playing a character called Rooster Cogburn.
THE FILM
The film starts by a man called Frank leaving ... ...but when he is away he gets shot by a man called Chaney who also steals his family savings. His daughter Mattie, who is played by Kim Darby, accompanied by her family's servant goes to the town where the shooting happened to sort out the body of her father. When she is in the town she goes to talk to the sheriff to see what is happening about Chaney and to see if he will stand trial for the murder. Advantages: Great entertainment. Disadvantages: Too addictive!
...previously only flicked over to Deadwood when it was on the TV be it waiting for something else to start or during breaks I had obviously struggled to pick up what was going on. However after buying season 1 (for £15-bargain!) I found myself asking why I had been so stupid as not to have watched any of the 3 season run previously!
