Mulitple sound modes 3 strengths of zoom Change camera angles (if available) 3D sound 5 scanning speeds Run-time menu
Watching dvd's, either PAL or NTSC format, the picture quality is second to none. It surprised me the difference between the quality of watching a video and a dvd. There's just no comparison in that department, and this player makes a hell of a difference in the sound department! I'd love to hook it up to some speakers when I get the cash! There is a slight setback though, I tend to find that I have to turn the volume up when watching a dvd, as it seems to play dvd's quieter than the volume level you had for just watching tv. This also applies when listening to cd's or mp3's, but the folder layout for mp3's is easy to use and follow.
The set up for this player is simplicity itself. One scart lead later and I was watching my first of many dvd's! Anyone can hook this baby up. Making this player region is as easy as 1-2-3, literally!!! You open the draw, type in 1, 2, 3, 4 and your away! This allows you to play region one discs that are RCE encoded, although sometimes my player doesn't like the odd bit and skips over a few seconds. It does have a habit of preferring region two to any other region disc.
If you compare the size of this to another player, it is quite bulky and cumbersome, but it still does the job just as well as any other player I've encountered. Since it's a fairly old player now, this is to be expected, but for what it does, I don't mind one little bit. I should mention that the remote for the player isn't the best design in the world, and you often find yourself staring at it to check you're going to press the right button! Its quite bulky as well, to go with the design of the player.
After-sales care should be given a mention though. Initially when I bought this player, it was a dud. It played a couple of dvd's before deciding that rather than play a movie as it should, it would be much more fun to listen to it and play moving coloured blocks instead. I took it back, and there was no problems exchanging it for one that worked. My replacement has been great. No breakdowns, no coloured blocks that shouold be people, generally no skipping, and deals with the odd light scratch on a disc as if it wasn't there. It seems this one was built to last! Although dvd-r's tend to not always work on it (I put this down to the age of the player not being able to deal with it).
I would say that at the time this player was outstanding value. It is getting on for 3 1/2 years old, and most people would be mad to pay around £180 for a player now. I'm glad that I got this one though, it has lasted me well and I have many more dvd's to watch on it yet! Until it decides that chewing a disc could be fun, I'm sticking with this one! I like it, and that's all that matters to me.
Advantages: Price, generally good quality Disadvantages: Problems with certain titles, DVDs must be very clean and Not compatible with all in one remotes
The WharfedaleDVD-750 has been lauded by many as the best DVD player on the market, with the combination of it's very low price, it's all region compatability and good range of features.
I would largely agree with this opinion - i myself bought the player within a week of it's release, mainly influenced by it's very low cost (although the amount i have now spent on DVD's makes the initial outlay seem a pitance). It is compatible with region 1 discs (press 0,1,2,3 on the remote with the tray out and then press play with an out of region disc in) which is ideal for me because frequent trips to the Us by myself and my family on business give a ready supply of US discs.
The player works very well most of the time and provides many hours of entertainment, and certainly low cost. However, i fell i should point out a few short comings ...

Advantages: Region free done with key presses of remote Disadvantages: Noisy motor - Bit slow to load discs
As seen in TESCO here is about as full a review of the two machines as I can get.
DVD750 - Available in most large Tesco stores, cost £179.
There are three diffrent versions of this player but most on sale are the newwer chipsets and these have got over the original problems the player had with certain region 1 and 2 discs (more info at the wharfedale website www.wharfedale.co.uk).
This player is indeed one of the best 'budget' DVD's I have seen so far, although there is a DVD750S too which Tesco are
selling for the same price..... read on
DVD750s - Available at some Tesco stores (bundled in piles with the standard 750) and at time of writing are available at TESCO.COM
The latest version of the 750 (ie the S) is everything the 750 wasnt! Wharfedale have listened to the public and Tesco and brought out an excellent machine ...
Advantages: Packed full of fetures, low price. Disadvantages: No six-channel output
Tesco, not somewhere that you?d expect to find a top quality budget DVD player. But with the release of the WharfedaleDVD-750 (exclusive to Tesco) Tesco has shaken up the budget DVD market. The Wharfedale is absolutely packed full of features you?d only expect to find on a much more expensive player including digital outs for use with a Dolby Digital surround amp and multi-region capability through a series of codes. The only thing the Wharfedale is lacking is a six-channel output for use with older Dolby pro-logic amps, but for around £180 the Wharfedale is hard to beat. ...
