I have had these speakers for 3 years now. When I first started using them, they were a great disappointment - they were harsh and there was virtually no bass. In fact, I reverted back to my very old KEFs and put the Warfedales in the loft! Then, when we moved house, the KEFs simply didn't fit the lounge, so reluctantly I brought the 8.3s down again. After many hours of running in, I have to say they have improved a lot. They produce very clear crisp treble and the bass is there and very deep indeed if you turn up the bass control on the amp - something you shouldn't really have to do. The mid range - vocals especially can be rather coloured. For modern close-miked recordings with a lot of inherent clarity, the 8.3s deliver well but for slightly less well recorded stuff - especially vocals, they are over coloured. Annie Lennox's voice will grate, espcially at a medium or high volume, whereas a good B&W for example will hold it. 8.3s can be had for well under £100 and, as they say, you gets what you pay for - but to be fair, they are probably worth 50% more that you will pay. Don't forget to run them in for many hours, and fill with sand!

The wharfedale daimond 8.3s are floorstanding speakers which may interest many people who are quite serious about hifi, but don't have a never ending budget.
They'll set you back £200 at the full retail price but I've personaly seen them as low as £80.
First off, these speakers represent outstanding value for money. They are very well built, attractive with kevlar (a type of woven material) drivers and a silk dome tweeter (usualy found on more expensive speakers).

However, The reason I rate them so high is the sound quality. I'm quite a hifi fanatic and I've auditioned many speakers of all sorts of prices and magazine ratings, so have faith in me.
These speakers are made from unsualy expensive components which makes them a steal...

...RDS was launched at the end of 1999 with an RRP of £349.99. It was fundamentally the same amp as the incredibly successful 6090 but with an added DTS sound option for DVD users. When it came through to Richer Sounds in numbers the price soon dropped to £249 and it started to sell bucket loads.
I bought mine at that price and I have used it almost every day in the fourteen months that have followed. I have an Akai VS-J717EK-N Nicam VCR and Samsung 709 DVD player running through it. The Samsung doubles as the audio CD player in the main room of the house. The room itself is quite large, about 24 foot by 12 foot, and needs a lot of sound to fill it.
