The speakers are nicely designed, with curved sides. The front is covered by a black cloth grill, which tends to collect way too much dust. There are plinths attached to the bases of the cabinets and metal spikes are supplied. The speakers weigh around 25kg a piece, and measure around 25cm wide by 33cm deep by 108cm high. Only downside is the finish of the cabinet which is wood-grained vinyl and may dent and scratch easily. But the cabinet itselt if very sturdy and strong so this is a minor issue.
The speakers are a four-way design: there is a 25mm dome tweeter, 50mm dome midrange driver and two 200mm drivers with kevlar cone. The upper cone driver is placed in a sealed enclosureand covers the crucial mid/bass crossover from 150Hz to 1kHz. The lower bass driver takes over from 150Hz downwards. The speaker is by the way able to reproduce sounds in the range of 28 to 24000 Hz.
The port is placed on the rear side of the speaker which somewhat limits the possibilities of placement (cannot place very close to walls), but otherwise it is fine. A wide flared plastic tube is used. Also on the rear are the terminals, which are bi-wireable and by default connected into a single pair of terminals with metal plates.
The speakers have a 90dB sensitivity value and an impedance of 6 ohms, which makes them easy load for any amplifier.
I use these speakers to listen to a wide variety of music (from pop to jazz to electronic) and also for movies. They prove to be very good performers and are head and shoulders over similarly priced speakers. The drivers and crossovers match perfectly, the speaker sounds like it's one piece.
Bass is well extended, midrange is clear and detailed and treble can be easily called fast and smooth. The transitions are seamless, both ends of the spectrum roll off gently, making for a well-balanced sound that makes listening a pleasure. Dynamics are well reproduced, details are good enough to hear the recording as it was meant to be.
Overall these speakers do a very good job at reproducing sound and they do not get between you and the music. With a price like this, these beauties are also practically a steal. A true art of making good value stereo equipment.
