"Death By Sculpture"

I have seen a lot of films out that I want to see, some with good reviews and some with bad reviews. One of the films I had heard about was the film 'Over Her Dead Body' with Eva Longoria in it. They mentioned her name to sell the film but she isn't really that big a part in the film but I suppose one of the bigger names. I wasn't too sure about seeing this film as it did look a bit stupid and I don't think much of Eva Longoria as an actress but then I thought it might be funny as it did get quite mixed reviews and looked ok from the adverts. I decided I would take the risk and go to see it anyway since I had some free time.

The film begins with us seeing lots of wedding things which is obviously Kate Eva Longoria Parker) starting to plan out the wedding and pick out things. The film does begin on a silly start though as Kate sees an ice sculpture and then it falls on top of her and next thing we know this is how she has died. Henry (Paul Rudd) is devastated by this as they were just going to get married and it takes him a while to get over it so his sister gives him the idea of going to visit a psychic as this might help him through it contacting his dead fiancée. However, Henry is a sceptic so he isn't really sure of this idea but after his sister pushing him he decided to give it a try.

The psychic that he goes to see is a woman called Ashley (Lake Bell). She does this for a living and is always with her gay friend Dan (Jason Biggs) who is always giving her advice on things. Henry starts to quite like Ashley but the only thing is Kate's ghost starts haunting Ashley because she doesn't like the idea of him moving onto someone else. So, she continues do everything possible in her way to stop Ashley and Henry being together and this is pretty much what the plot bases itself around.

I think this film is very predictable and I didn't really enjoy it, it was really cheesy and I just kind of knew what was going to happen next. I do like a romantic comedy which is probably what I would categorize this under but this one was just a bit painful to watch and that is probably why I didn't like it as there wasn't a good chemistry between any of the actors and it just seemed to have no real onscreen magic.

The acting in this film was definitely what brought it right downhill with the characters not being very interesting. Ashley who is played by Lake Bell is not an actress I am very familiar with but as a main character she wasn't really relatable as this thirty something psychic that seemed to lead quite a boring life and didn't really seem to do anything interesting. Then Paul Rudd who is usually a good actor and very likeable wasn't in this role and I couldn't have any real emotion when watching this because he was sad over his wife dying by a collapsing ice sculpture which brings no real tear to my eye.

Eva Longoria should stick to Desperate Housewives as this was not good and her voice was so irritating, she just kept appearing and trying to be funny but it wasn't working at all. She seems ok in Desperate Housewives because she isn't a main focus all of the time and her character seems a lot like her but in other films she has been ok doing quite serious roles as an agent but this was probably the worst yet and it has put me off seeing anything else with her in it.

If the plot sounds good to you then this film might still be showing in some cinemas but I think it'd be more likely to be caught on DVD now. The DVD is released on the 6th of May in this country and on PlayUSA.

The film lasts approximately 95 minutes and is a 12A certificate. For more information on the film and to view a trailer go to http://www.overherdeadbodymovie.com/

I've avoided seeing this because to me it looks like a bad rip off of "Ghost" - very similar in storyline, the ghost of a dead person coming back to their loved one...it's been done, theres nothing new there at all. Glad to see I haven't missed anything x
