Oho, now heres a chestnut!
1: Gran Turismo 2) If someone were to say to me "what is the single best racing game of all time, i could honestly and instantly answer "Gran Turismo 2" this is for me, the best racing game i have ever played of all time. On the PS,1 this game boasts excellent graphics, superb gameplay and for a racing game, superb individualities.
The game consists of two different modes, arcade and simulation. In the arcade mode, you choose the courses and the ca freely, and do one off races. And in simulation, you see a "world map" of sorts, and you must buy cars, earn money, upgrade cars, sell cars and earn trophies in order to proceed in the game and unlock all of the extra features!
My favorite part of this game was the fact that in order to drive, you needed a driving license in the game, and the better the car, the higher grade license you need! ingenious no?
Gran Turismo 2 features nearly 650 automobiles and 27 racing tracks. This truly was a game before it's time on PS2, and i spent many an hour trying to upgrade my license, win trophies and compete in 3 hour timed endurance races!!

2: Need for Speed: Most Wanted)(Xbox) This is whats now known as a "multi-format racing game" - meaning rather than just the traditional race against other cars to win, it features many different ways in which you can play the game:
Career Mode: Where the player can buy cars, modify them, give them the paint jobs they want. then free roam the streets of the game's vastly extensive maps in search of races, police pursuits, milestone challenges, and bounty. The ultimate goal of the career mode is to move up to the blacklist (best drivers) and on the way, maybe pick up a few pink slips from the opponents and take their cars!
Quick Race: This is the traditional race-game where you can race freely on any of the unlocked maps, use any of the unlocked cars (or even one from your career garage)
Challenge Mode: Now here was a welcome addition for me, in this mode you must plow through 68 progressively difficult challenges, where you have to successfully complete Tollbooth races and pursuit challenges, such as "disable 4 police cars".
The cars in this mode are pre-tuned and pre-selected in order to best suit the challenge.. even a cement truck is used at one point!...
Circuit races, point-to-point Sprint races, Lap Knockout races and Drag races are basically the same as need for speed underground, (its predecessor) so we know its going to be great, right?

Mario Kart 64 (N64): This game was the funnest, most amazing multilayer racing game i have ever played with my friends. The only thing i can say is : SUSPENSE!
You take control of a character of your choice from the world of Mario, and race against other characters over a wide range of tracks.
The three difficulty levels, (i.e. Easy medium and hard) and 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc.
Although the game is not entirely too challenging, it is the most fun i have ever had from a multi-player game!
There are various different types of play: Mario Grand Prix where one or 2 players can play "career" against the AI in 4 different cups, Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, and Special Cup - each one harder than the last.
However there is an "extra" difficulty to be unlocked - where the tracks are all mirrored, and this just adds to the fun!!
You can also do a time trial, where you race alone (against a ghost of your previous run) to achieve best times and such for the tracks.
The battle mode has to be the most fun for multiplayer. You are in a battle arena with three baloons (lives) and the idea is to kil each other by collecting weapons (in boxes) and using them! its AMAZING fun!!
The sound is upbeat and fun and you will love playing this for hours and hours!!
