Advantages: Genre-busting songs throughout, deceptive arrangements Disadvantages: Another artist that's slipped through the cracks
on Ciao will detect a theme here: yes, I do tend to search out artists that don't garner huge amounts of publicity and I've little love for those that are manufactured by record companies and TV talent shows - so you could call me something of a musical snob. I don't really care what people think, especially when it means I can listen to the likes of Sarah Harmer instead of the latest reject from X-Factor.
I've known about Sarah Harmer for a few years now, but hadn't got around to buying one of her CDs until last month (so many artists to listen to, not enough hours in the day!). I was planning to buy her 2005 album "I'm A Mountain" instead, but the lure of picking "YouWere Here" up for around £3.50 via Amazon's US site (I wasn't bothered about the ten-day wait for delivery) swung me towards the latter. "YouWere Here" was actually Harmer ...
her actions were excellently hidden until later from you, as your saw the positive fun side of what she did.
In many respects Holly?s own story would have been enough, as it was so different, exciting, manic, sad and dangerous all in one, with many up and downs for her to deal with. But the author made it even better by always putting doubts in the readers mind about exactly what was happening. These doubts were expertly reconciled and all made perfect sense when added up and explained much later on in the novel.
At first I was disappointed when two thirds of the way through the novel the authors changed from writing from Holly?s perspective to Meg?s. I understand why they did this and for the story to unfold properly it had to be done as it was a vital component in the conclusion to the story. It just disappointed me as it made Holly ...
Advantages: friendship flick Disadvantages: 80s fashions, drug use, swearing
look grown up, they give each other love bites. No comment.
This is when the film took a bit of a turn for me. They get to the party and there?s a few guys there who are into drugs and Marina is soon being injected. I have to say I didn?t really like this, (OK I admit it, I'm a prude!) and obviously if you do watch this film and you have kids around, this isn?t one for them. At the same party, Holly finds herself in bed with Nat. Marina comes round from her drug induced haze and sees them together, and inevitably they argue.
Fast forward again to 1982 ? Nat?s in love with Isobel and moves abroad for a while. Marina sports rather nasty blonde hair with black roots and wears long jumpers and invisible skirts. Both girls are at uni and both fancy their tutor, Daniel (Kyle Maclachlan). He ends up bedding both of them with both ...
