To my way of thinking one of the best views I have ever come across was in the Damuls in Austria - Our hotel was situated over 7,000 ft above sea level and, believe it or not, we could and did climb even higher. We were in the Damuls for Christmas and had a wonderful time watching the skiers at the very top of the mountain. We also had very clear blue skies and thick, thick snow which added to the sense of being at the top of the world. If I had one problem with this area was the drive up and down the mountain road as at times you were looking over a sheer drop and, as I do not have a good head for heights, at times it scared the daylights out of me. However, the views from the top were absolutely wonderful and more than made up for that drive each time.

The village of Damuls, has various shops, not only for food but also for the skiers, a beautiful church and of course various hotels and residential homes. The slopes were busy every single day by both young and old - which put me to shame as I don't ski. However you can get on the cable car to take you to the very top of the ski run and boy is it worth it.

Our hotel, the Berghotel Madlener, catered for us extremely well, service and food were excellent and it was very clean and comfortable.

All in all we had an excellent christmas and will definitely be returning again.
