Advantages Advantages Getting a healthy cat.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Choosing from the options.

In preparation for my new role as Special Events co-ordinator, I was browsing through the various sections of “pets” when I chanced upon a category that has not been reviewed in any depth. Tucked away under pet carriers is “Where to get your cat from”. Now I have kept cats all my life, from the tender age of five when I kept bringing strays home, to very first flat when I was looking for a cat that would adapt to life in a flat, so I consider myself something of an expert on the subject. Cats are the best kind of pets to adapt to almost any homes and with their independent nature can be left ... more

    Advantages Advantages Many different ways

Disadvantages Disadvantages Many go very quickly

Beforehand: As a child I had a pet dog. When he died I missed having the company of a pet and tried to talk my parents into getting a new one, but they wouldn't. My boyfriend at the time had 2 pet cats and about 3 strays, which they regularly fed, and took care of when ill etc. When I was going out with him I came across many opportunities to gain a pet cat for free. They got a new stray at one point, which they asked if I wanted. Another friend had a cat who had kittens and offered me one. For the next year or so I came across various opportunities were I could have gotten a cat, free of ... more

Advantages Advantages home checks, advice and guidance

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be difficult to contact

After 7 years of persuasion, cajoling (and generally being annoying) I finally persuaded my husband to let me have a cat. (The trick is to take him round to a friend who has a kitten and spend the afternoon going "Isn't he cute!"). Unsure of where to start looking for a cat I decided to do some investigating on the internet and came across the Cats Protection League website. Unfortunately the site isn't updated very often and some of the contact numbers were out of date, but I did manage to contact the Shrewsbury Branch (it's about 13 miles from where I live) who were happy to give me the ... more

Advantages Advantages finally getting your kitten will make it all worthwhile

Disadvantages Disadvantages finding a kitten isn't as easy as you think

I’ve always loved animals. When I was at school I always imagined that one day I’d become a vet. A pity really that I was never any good at science and have a tendency to feel fainthearted and dizzy at the mere sight of blood and guts. I also always used to imagine that when I was ‘grown up’ (and I’m still waiting for that to happen in the literal sense!), I would live on a farm in the countryside surrounded by animals. I would have horses and cats and dogs and rabbits, and when I was 5 years old, I’m sure elephants and kangaroos would have been on the list too. Ah…… the idyllic dreams of ... more

Advantages Advantages Gaining a great companion

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Probably waiting time

Having read the review by Hellyphant I thought I would just make a couple of suggestions. If you are looking for a cat, try to be a little flexible. Why not consider a slightly older cat - our first three cats were moggies from various rescue centres. One of them was semi feral but came around after a lot of TLC and patience and it was well worth the effort in the end. Also if you are going to be out at work all day - consider taking two together - it really doesn't cost you any more foodwise. Now, if you are willing to wait a bit you could always contact various breed clubs (can be found in ... more
