It obviously a subject close to native South African fledging Director Neil Blomkamp's heart and kudos to him for attempting it. However, this does not forgive the fact that large parts of this film are bloody awful.
Take the aliens for example. How dreadful are they! They look like something out of Doctor Who. Not even the modern Doctor Who either. We are talking Tom Baker era special effects here! The whole thing is very much low budget made for television sci-fi. Now I like my B-movies as much as the next guy but they have to make up for it with a decent plot and acting and for me District 9 has neither. A strong theme and an interesting moral undercurrent? Certainly but it is lacking a decent ...

The Canon PowerShot A410 is perhaps not a camera you would consider nowadays, seeing as it has a resolution of a mere 3.2 megapixels, and in any case the A4xx range is already up to A480! However, if you can find one going cheap - I was lucky enough to grab one from the small ads for a tenner - you might be surprised at how capable it still actually is. It takes two AA batteries and SD memory cards, so neither of those essentials will break the bank. Do use high-capacity NimH rechargeables, though, as alkalines don't last very long!
The A410 is quite small, if not down in the ultra-compact end of the market. However, it is not particularly slim, so is not really a camera to slip unobtrusively into a trouser pocket or small bag. One of the first things you notice about the Olympus E-410 is that it is not much bigger or heavier than some zoom cameras, being dwarfed by the Canon EOS 50D that I have purchased since.
