A while ago, we purchased a new washing machine and dishwasher made by Whirlpool. We decided to take out a 10-year parts guarantee with them and when we purchased them from Comet we took out a 5-year labour guarantee.
We have had a number of fairly minor faults over time where we have had to have engineers out to fix the fault and had never had a problem until the last time.
Lets give you a bit of history first that will explain why I am so frustrated, A short while ago we had a burst water pipe in our kitchen, when the plumber was moving the washing machine to get to the pipe, he ripped the lino, he explained that as the lino was wet it ripped easily, but not to worry as the household insurance would cover it. On this occasion as there was water everywhere I had no problems calling my household insurers and they had no problems in covering the cost of repairs.
So here I am with my gleaming new kitchen floor when the washing machine goes wrong again. No problem I thought just phone Whirlpool they will come and sort it out. I phoned up and booked the appointment and the Whirlpool engineer turned up on the day he was supposed to. We explained to him that we had just had a new floor and could he put something under the washing machine before he moved it so he didn’t damage the floor and then left him to it.
When he shouted to say he had finished, I checked the machine was working and then said goodbye. I then went back into the kitchen and picked up the wet towels he had left on the floor (I assumed to soak up the water that had come out of the machine while he was fixing it) only to find a large rip in my nice new lino.
So I got on to the phone to Whirlpool Customer Services and spoke to someone giving them all the details, She said “that is our senior engineer for the area I am sure he didn’t know he had damaged the floor otherwise he would have said something”, they then put me on hold while they called the engineer. Apparently the engineer denied he had caused any damage to our floor. I suggested they get the engineer to come back so I could show him the damage as it certainly was not there when he arrived, the operator said he was on his way to another job so he couldn’t. Even though the engineer had said he didn’t do it the operator said to get 2 quotes for replacing the floor and to post it into them with a letter detailing what happened.
So after ringing round lots of companies and several visits and even having to pay a £30 charge for producing insurance quotes, I posted off my letter along with 2 quotes. Just over a week later I get a letter back saying they had spoken to the engineer who denied he had caused any damage (I have heard this before somewhere) so they were not going to fix my floor.
I was obviously upset by this so I tried to speak to the person who had written the letter, but after a number of phone calls and emails I had still not managed to speak to the lady dealing with my claim, or with the customer service manager as they were never available and I left a message every time I called they were never returned.
When I did eventually speak to the Customer Service Manager he basically said tough, they are disputing liability in this case and there is no place for an appeal or complaint in the company. I am now in the situation where I am going to have to go back to my household insurers again to repair a floor damaged by a Whirlpool engineer.
The reason for writing this opinion is to warn any potential purchasers of Whirlpool and the other makes they look after including Bauknecht and Ignis equipment. The Customer Service Department appear to have no idea of the concept of Customer Care.
I phoned to report the problem, they had already decided that it was not there fault, but they made me go out and waste time getting quotes anyway.
No concept of the customer is always right; their Engineer said he didn’t do it so basically tough on the poor customer.
No one returned my calls or emails; I had to keep phoning over several days before I got to speak to someone.
Then the attitude was basically tough.
I do not have a problem with either appliance, but the after care service is absolutely dreadful. I will certainly never buy a Whirlpool appliance again, neither will any of my friends after I explained this story to them, and I advise you to look for another manufacturer as well

...bought a fully automatic Whirlpool washing machine (Whitemagic T50) two years back (on 9th May 2005) from Vivek's R. T. Nagar, Bangalore (SRSS Number 111866, item code A438) for Rs. 15750. Now I really wish if I had gone for any other washing machine other than Whirlpool. The machine as such gave me enough problems in the last two years (first the knob came out, then I had to change the belt etc.) but more troublesome and irritating was the customer ... ...that the top authorities of Whirlpool are not aware of this. Otherwise, being such a reputed company, they would have taken enough care to rectify the same. I am writing this letter in order to bring this issue to the notice of higher authorities of Whirlpool.
On 6th October, I found that my washing machine is making a lot of noise. I called the customer care center (080-28603412) and registered the complaint. They gave me the number of Bangalore ...

Review of Whirlpool - Customer Service
Advantages: Er...... Disadvantages: the customer is always...wrong!
...a problem with our new Whirlpool oven..it seemed as though heat was escaping as the area around the oven was like a hothouse. By a strange coincidence "Watchdog" then did a feature about Whirlpool ovens saying that there was recognised fault with the seals on the oven door and that it was worth getting them checked over. We called them out and a man declared that there was nothing wrong. Well after our kitchen units began to warp due to escaped heat, ... ...this confusion the fact that Whirlpool promise to "find out what's happening and phone back" and never do (that's happened half a dozen times). I've tried to complain to the Customer Services Manager (off sick) and even the MD (on holiday). All I want is my oven repaired! Well apparently the parts have now arrived and an engineer is calling on Tuesday. I have explained that WE ARE OUT ON TUESDAY...what's the betting an engineer calls anyway!! ...

Advantages: long reliable life Disadvantages: basic washing machines
Had a Whirlpool AWM 328 washing machine for nearly nine years and apart from a new control panel in its first year, used to just stop before starting spin cycle, never had another problem until just yesterday evening when in the middle of the spin cycle it started to make a horrible clanking sound and had to rush to turn it off. Looks like drum bearing has just gone and died. 8 years is pretty good going I think, and we do a lot of heavy full loads ... ...same washer left in house that he moved in to lasy January and that one died the same death just three weeks ago. Weird, or what.
Anyway, I am currently on line just looking at the range of new Whirlpool washers.
Son by the way just bought a new Indisit. ...

3)Electronic Oven Control - This is the area with the clock setting, oven temperatures, the minute timer and for the light to be on or off in your oven. (there is also another electronic light button that comes on as soon as you open the oven door)
4)Control panel - Controls all four burners.
My last and most favorite feature...the Broiler (I use it all of the time!) There is a button on the Electronic Oven Control to work the broiler's temperature settings.
Whirlpool Gas Range comes with a full one year warranty (and other optional warranty plans). The Whirlpool company will also pay for parts and labor for defects in their materials. of which 3 years only have elapsed.
My only gripe now is that they are insisting on delivering another similar fridge freezer. The last thing I want is another Whirlpool.
I just hope I am entitled to vouchers. The one they are offering me is the ARC7593 which has a slightly smaller capacity. Does anyone know if I can insist on the exact same capacity as the ARC7612. Hopefully they will not be able to do this and will have to give me vouchers.
Anyway in a nutshell. This has been a useless fridge freezer and Whirlpoolcustomerservice is poor. My 'Whatever Happens' policy states that they will attend a faulty appliance withing 48 hours. This has never been the case and on one occasion the best they could offer me was in excess of 2 weeks from the date of my phone call.
I purchased this policy from Currys but apparently, or according to ...
Advantages: Nothing in Particular Disadvantages: Poor design, hard to clean, bad customer service, poor handbook
We bought this cooker about 18 months ago, together with a gas hob and cooker hood. The hob & hood have been OK, but the cooker has been a major disappointment.
The handbook was very unclear about how some of the features operate, and we could get no help at all from Whirlpool's customerservice department. Eventually we worked out how to use the more advanced features, though they aren't particularly useful to us. The clock is very fiddly to reset.
The grill takes a very long time to heat up and is difficult to clean. There is also a design fault which means that any liquid spilled on the front of the oven is likely to get inside the glass fronted doors, and the only way to clean them is to take the doors to pieces, which is quite difficult.
In doing this, we discovered that one of the rubber door seals was split. This was ...
