Advantages: Steady and quiet, good brand. Disadvantages: Top loader may be a problem for small flats.

The best thing about it is that it doesn't move half way across the room when it's on the spin cycle. My old machine was so wobbly that it even broke my crockery in the kitchen through its rattling. This doesn't do that. It'll keep the neighbours happy too.
Oh! I just moved house and this is my favourite new purchase! I've always been a fan of top-loading washing machines. I like them for some reason (I think they remind me of living in Japan) but this may be a drawback for anyone with space issues in their home. You can't pop it under the worktop like a front-loader but I'm lucky enough to have a separate utility room and for me top-loading means business...
It looks great...clean and white,,,what more could you want from a washing machine? It instills me with the confidence that things will come out clean and they do! The settings are straightforward and very easy to understand without reading the ten thousand page manual which is a huge bonus.
Its range of cycles are fairly standard...cotton whites at 90 degrees, delicates, coloureds, standard 40 degree cycle. They're all covered as you'd expect. I have to say, whites come out splendidly but how much of that is to do with the washing powder? I don't know! What I want is a washing machine that washes and this certainly does the job.
As for cost, it's certainly not the cheapest but I guess you're paying for the brand here. I have plently of other Whirlpool products and they've always been reliable and of a high quality so I've no reason to suppose this will be any different.

Marvellous and highly recommended! HUGE CAPACITY. I've yet to try out the delicate cycle but I shall amend when I have.
Advantages: Takes a very big load and is quick Disadvantages: Larger than average size
I have owned this machine and its sister tumble dryer for seven years now and they have been in constant use. I have had absolutely no problems with either of them, they are the real 'workhorses' of the washing machine world. I had them serviced last week, just because I thought I should after so much use and the engineer couldn't find anything wrong. I love the fact that I can fit almost a whole binful in at a time and I love how quick the cycle ... ...size washing machine. These have to be seen to be believed, they are big but I wouldn't be without them. The only disadvantage I have found is due to their size. They do not fit in all modern utility rooms. We had to discount several new houses we looked at as they wouldn't have fitted. That said, our present house just needed a bit of a re-jig. We asked the builder not to fit the utility room out with cupboards and everything worked out fine. ...

Advantages: Accessibility, Capacity, Speed of cycle, "White porcelain on steel drum" Disadvantages: Size, Water usage
the potential advantage of a toploading machine. We gathered that the few other available compact toploaders also use drums which revolve on a horizontal axis (rather than the vertical axis used by the large capacity ones, including the 9400)
Most frontloaders or compact toploaders have spin speeds of 1000rpm or more, which can seem alarmingly violent and sound rather noisy. As mentioned elsewhere, the max. 640 spin speed of 9400 is more effective than one would expect because it has a larger diameter drum. In fact there does not seem to be much difference in the sogginess of the clothes at the end of what is a much more civilised process
There is little point in rehearsing all the requirements and specs. of the currently available (June 2006) Whirlpool toploaders we were interested in: (LSQ8000 ?old model), (3) LSQ8033, and (3) GSC9400, both ...
