We purchased this item over 2 years ago and I have never had ANY issues with it. I have the black version which has a high gloss finish so it stays looking like new with the help of some Mr Muscle window cleaner. From my point of view I love being able to strip everything out of it and put it in the dishwasher, particularly the doors shelves where the milk is kept, so its very easy to keep really clean.
Aside from the occasional noise made by the newly made ice dropping into the container, its also very quiet. You do need a big kitchen to accomodate this appliance, and there was no way that it was going to fit through my front door as the porch door is to one side and the front door is central so getting anything large in and out is impossible, but we have a semi with with a very wide drive round the side and french doors that open outwards so there were no problems there. I also remember there being a small kit included with special tools to remove the doors if necessary but Im not sure I would have wanted to do that to a brand new appliance that cost so much. Im not sure how easy it would have been to align them again once they were put back on, not to mention the water supply that is connected to one of them.
You also need space to open and close it easily as the doors are thick and could get knocked /dented if the kitchen space is small and you have children bumping past with toys or perhaps dining furniture that sits too close. My kitchen and dining room are knocked into one and it sits by itself in a recess of what was once the dining room. We took a spur off the water supply to the kitchen sink and ran the pipe along the outside of the house across the back under the door thresholds and in the wall. There is enough excess flexible pipe to be able to pull it out to clean behind / underneath and it slides out very easily on wheels so virtually anyone could do it, I have far more trouble moving my washing machine that this appliance. So my advice would be to get measurements if you are considering buying a fridge of this size and make very sure that you have considered how you are going to get it in your house ( or out again if you are thinking of moving anytime soon). Two men delivered it and it wasnt packed in the way that you would normally get an appliance delivered, it just had shrink wrap round it and they told me that was because the packing increased the size so much and just made it even harder to handle.
My children love having the chilled water and constant supply of ice, although I do occasionally discard the contents of the ice reservoir as it can pick up the smell if there is anything strong ( onions / garlic) placed in the freezer and of course when I take the whole thing out to wash it, which again is very easy. The only small Issue I would say I have had with this, is the area under the water/ ice dispenser, it appears to leak very slightly in one corner and run down the door, not the extent that it makes a puddle on the floor, just enough to leave a water mark on the front, so I find myself wiping that area more than the rest of the door. We also live in a hard water area and the removable tray and the area underneath where the water / ice comes out, gets limescale and needs to be washed / kept dry. I made the mistake of puting removable black plastic grill in the dishwasher and its now faded slightly.
I have a British Gas service plan and I pay £17 a month for FIVE appliances, and they had no issue with adding this appliance for no increase in price, I would urge anyone to look at this service plan before buying the expensive plans that sales people try to push on you at the point of sale. This plan covers ALL parts repairs and call out charges and they will keep fixing something as long as they are able to get parts. If they cant get parts they will offer you money towards a new appliance.I have never had to call them out for this appliance but I am happy that its covered if I needed to in the future.
I cant stress enough about taking measurements and being sure this is going to fit in your house, I forgot to mention, this item LOOKS very impressive sitting there in the corner and never fails to get comments from people who come here, its like a piece of attractive furniture in itself!
