This is not a review of Whiskas products in general, but specifically of 'Oh so fishy' pouches.
With two geriatric, fussy cats sometimes buying a food that they enjoy can be a bit of a problem and in the summer their left over food becomes smelly and attracts flies - not pleasant to come home to at all. You can imagine my delight at finding a food that they enjoy so much that within seconds there is not a trace of it left in their bowls.
__________Pack claims______________
Whiskas "Oh so.......Fishy" is a new catfood which contains whole pieces of fish with just enough jelly or gravy to keep it succulent.
Your cat will notice the difference straight away. It'sso deeply delicious your cat will polish off every last morsel and then ask for more.
Absolutely true - I don't know what addictive substance they put in this food but every mouthful gets demolished in record time and there are definite loud meows for more every time.....
___________What do
you get for your money?________
In each pack there are 12 pouches each containing 85grams of food. There are four different flavours (3 packs of each); tuna, sardine, salmon and cod. All contain meat and animal derivatives, fish and fish derivatives including a minimum of 14% whole pieces of fish. All varieties contain minerals vitamin E and permitted colourants- Why do cats need to have their food coloured at all? Mine seem to enjoy a quite indiscriminate variety of naturally caught food in an array of colours given half a chance and I do believe they have a limited colour vision anyway.
______________Open the Box____________
No broken nails or stabbing myself with a sharp knife with this pack. A handy slot in the top and perforations in the top and down one side make it easy to open. Not much strength required either it rips very easily and then the flap can be ripped off to provide easy acces the the packs inside.
PAUSE...... Wibbly Wobbly has noticed that I have a box of his favourite food. I will need to feed him AGAIN or he will not stop making an awful wailing noise beside his bowl..
RESUME... Blissful silence.....The pouch opened easily; a little red arrow on either side of the top of the pack indicating where to tear no strength required here either. Even someone with poor eyesight could easily locate where to tear.
More importantly the food came out easily. Not like some pouches where more is left in the pack than gets into the feeding bowl.
-----------------Smell----------------- Quite a pleasant aroma as catfoods go not overpoweringly fishy. Not like some other catfoods which make you want to evacuate the kitchen as soon as they have gone into the bowls.
__________APPEARANCE_____________
A Pleasant pinky colour with fish pieces clearly visible. Solid looking in texture not at all runny or watery.
__________TASTE________________
Now come on .....There are some things that I will do to give an accurate review, Sorry tasting cat food is not one of them ...Well not unless someone is willing to pay me vast sums of money.. Then I suppose I could be persuaded.
So I am afraid you are going to have to rely on my translation of my cats' language.....
"Feed me. Feed ME... FEED ME....FEED ME NOW!"
"IF YOU THINK I AM EATING THAT YOU HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING.ITS LIKE POO. I'M GOING TO BURY IT"
"GIVE ME THE FISHY STUFF THAT YOU ARE HIDING IN THE CUPBOARD - THERE'S NO WAY I'M EATING THAT MUCK WHEN I KNOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT IN THERE"
"THATS RIGHT - PUT THAT POO IN THE BIN AND WASH MY BOWL OUT PROPERLY"
"HURRY UP! HURRY UP! OH I CAN SMELL IT COMING HURRY UP now!
"Oh yum yum............"
"That was verrrry tasty. I'll just wash my paws and face and have a little snooze and make room for some more...."
So from the empty bowls and my sketchy understanding of cat talk I think you will gather that this is very very tasty indeed.
________How much do you feed?__________
It is recommended that you feed 3 - 4 pouches a day so at nearly £4.00 for a pack of 12 pouches you will see that this is not going to be your cheapest option. Beware; don't start feeding your cats on this unless you can afford to do so regularly as it really does seem to be addictive! My cats eat about 7 pouches a day between them that's about 4 packs of 12 per week.
___________Where to buy/ cost_____________
Most supermarkets seem to sell this. I have been buying mine in Morrisons recently as it is on offer at £2 98 as opposed to the regular price of nearly £4.00
Do I recommend? Well if you can afford it, yes definitely. Do my cat's recommend, They won't eat anything else now unless they have stolen it from our plates when our backs are turned. A real winner with Wibbly Wobbly and Grotty.
Must end now they have woken up again and you know what they are saying....... Feed me....Feed ME.....FEED ME.....FEED ME NOW.
