The plot : Screenwriter, Hilary Thomas, is confronted in her own home by an intruder named Bruno Frye. It seems that Mr. Frye has been stalking Ms. Thomas in the belief that Ms. Thomas is his dead mother, Katherine, who has come back from the dead in order to kill him. He must kill her, before she kills him.
Of course, Hilary has no idea why Frye has singled her out. She is only aware his murderous intent, and she is very afraid. On Frye's first attempt at her, she survives. On the second go around, Frye does not. Thinking she is now safe, as Frye was apparently dead, she is shocked when he, yet again, confronts her.
Why this is happening, will keep the reader turning the pages. Some of it is predictable, but still its an absorbing, easy read.
Deans brilliant way of giving character depth means that with this book the reader, well i certainly did, feels for all the characters both good and evil. The books main point is to show how differently the long-term effects of childhood sufferings and traumas can affect individuals, come adulthood. This is one of the Deans earlier novels. Its not his usual supernatural style that his more recent books tend to be, but if you enjoy suspenseful novels you will not be disappointed.
I feel like my reviews dont do Dean justice, so I'll stop here. Read the book for yourself.
