The Chilean answer to Burgundy !
Advantages: Well balanced flavours, availablity, good for Christmas turkey Disadvantages: Oakiness may be an issue
...Burgundy. One good example is Montes Alpha Chardonnay hailing from the Casablanca Valley which is held in high esteem for quality Chardonnay production. Fortunately this wine is widely available in the UK as I know for a fact that it is stocked at Tesco and Morrisons supermarkets at £9.99 a pop with sometimes a discount to £7.99. Like a lot of premium Chardonnays from Burgundy this Montes wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels to give extra ... ...induced flavours which complement the restrained fruit flavours of Chardonnay well.
The wine I tasted was from the 2004 vintage and was a beautifully clear, invitingly warm golden colour courtesy of its age and exposure to oak. Plunging my nose into my glass I noticed pronounced yet elegant aromas of ripe tropical fruits (mango and fig) complemented and balanced oaky aromas of vanilla, caramel, coconut and popcorn (honestly I’m not supplementing ...

A wine with my stamp of approval
Advantages: complex and well balanced Disadvantages: none
I have cracked open a bottle of wine tonight, and it has sparked me into review mode. I am really impressed by it, but I will explain that later. First off, I need to review the main grapes in the wine. I think that it is important to understand a wines make-up, in order to appreciate it fully. Semillon The semillon grape is considered to be one of the fine white wine grapes. It, along with muscadelle, and sauvignon blanc, is one of the three ... ...grapes in Bordeaux. It is relatively easy to grow, and is hardy to most disease. The worst that it gets as a vine, is a touch of rot. Similar to chenin blanc, it is very thin skinned. This makes it prone to sunburn. Unlike the chenin blanc, However, it is full of flavour. It is low in acid, and very sweet to the taste. This natural sugar in the grape, will eventually become high alcohol in the wine. After all it is the fermentation of these natural ...

Gallo family mix it up
Advantages: Good price and a smooth crisp drink Disadvantages: bottles too small !!!
Garnet Point Chardonnay-Chenin Blanc So the ghost and ghouls were out in force halloween Saturday - so were the spirits - hmm - was never one for the white spirits - a nice dark smooth brandy or rum yes, but not what was on offer at this party. Then I spotted a familiar green bottle sitting in the ice barrel !! Picking up the ice-cold bottle I recognised the Chardonnay before me. It was Garnet Point - a great favourite of mine. I enjoyed the bottle ... ...~~~ Packaging~~~ Garnet Point Chardonnay-Chenin Blanc is a crisp, California wine that is presented in a stanard 75cl pale green bottle at 13% vol. Thus allowing the drinker to see the clear, pale colour that reassured me it would be a rather dry, white wine. The bottle displays a bold front label with matching neck label. ~~~~ Price~~~~ I picked this bottle up for £4.99 in our local Co-op store but I also know Tesco's and other large stores sell ...

Heaven in a bottle!! Ogio Pinot Grigio
Advantages: great taste, light, refreshing and fruity Disadvantages: bit pricey so hunt for offers!!
Another great find at my local Tesco store. Again I brought my first bottle when it was on offer and had to dash back the next morning to stock up!!! At about £8 per bottle its usually out of my price range so half price made it seem appealing. It's a light fruity easy drink, great for the summer months when bottle is chilled!! I found the only downside (apart from a hangover the next day!) it that it is too drinkable. Its not got a strong taste ...
