History of the Wolf Winemaker

Advantages: Tastes delicious
Disadvantages: None

...vineyards throughout Southern Australia. WOLF BLASS THE MAN Wolf Blass was born in East Germany in 1934. After working in the European wine industry for 13yrs, he moved to Southern Australia in 1961. In 1966 Wolf Blass registered the name 'Bilyara' (aboriginal for 'eaglehawk') which can be seen on the Wolf Blass bottles. From 1969 to 1973 Wolf worked as a winemaker and manager of Tolleys, going on to make original wines under his own label. MAKING ...
...the grapes, gently removing them from their stems. The grapes are crushed and the juice is extracted. The clear juice is decanted off. The wine is fermented in oak barrels. The wine is clarifyed, ensuring that it will stay clear. The wine ages to develop its bouquet, then it is bottled. TASTE This wine has a lovely peach and melon character, with oak flavours and a creamy texture. FOOD I have enjoyed ths wine with cheeses and chicken dishes. ...

Review of Wolf Blass Yellow Label Riesling

A Fruity Wine for all Occasions

Advantages: Nice grapey taste, not too dry
Disadvantages: None!

Well doesn't time fly? Christmas has come and gone for another year and I'm sure we've all eaten and drunk too much over the last couple of days. I know I have! With our Christmas dinner this year, we enjoyed a nice bottle of Riesling as it is one of the few drinks that everyone in our family likes. ** What is Riesling? ** Riesling is a variety of white wine which is produced in the Alsace region of France, northern Italy and Germany and Austria. ...
...to hang on the vine well past normal picking time. Through evaporation caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea ("noble rot") and external conditions like the weather, the grapes lose water and as a result become sweeter and more acidic than grapes used for other white wines. So there's some background information. Now back to the review.... ** The Bottle ** The bottle of Riesling we had with christmas dinner was one of the German varieties, bottled ...

Review of Michael Schafer Riesling Classic

Classy, dry, petrol laden Riesling

Advantages: Elegant flavours, smooth, long
Disadvantages: Only at Oddbins, some may find petrol flavours unusual

...this wine was the Australian Knappstein Clare Valley Riesling found at Oddbins at the price of £7.49 (I tasted it when my local Oddbins was still open, alas it is not any more as many Oddbins countrywide have been shut down). I tried the 2003 vintage but I think the vintages that are available are 2004 and beyond. I drank Knappstein Riesling by itself and it proved a wonderful companion to a warm, sultry summer’s evening. It came in a long thin ...
...traditional premium Riesling zones of Alsace, France and Germany. The first attention grabber was that it oozed aromas of petrol laden citrus fruit ! A wine smelling like it should have came out of a forecourt pump may sound unusual and off-putting but it is typical for Clare Valley Rieslings that have been bottle aged for a couple of years or more (petrol aromas can be usual for some aged Rieslings) and in the case of this wine it was nicely in ...

Review of Knappstein Riesling Clare Valley

Blue Matron

Advantages: Reasonable priced
Disadvantages: Not the best value around

...have only tried the basic Blue Nun, and as the company to have produced a more sophisticated big sister to its signature wine, the 2004 Riesling varietal had to be worth a try. The bottle is clear, looking surprisingly like an Australian wine, with green and yellow colouring, but it's given away by the nice lady in a habit on the front. (Oddly Ciao have a picture of the Eiswein, which is much prettier). Blue Nun seem to want to encourage its core ...
...big sister to the base Blue Nun that clocks in at about 9.5%. I always find that alcohol percentage work on more of a logarithmic than linear scale, so I suspect this would get you drunk more than 25% quicker, which may be your plan, but should be borne in mind if you're driving, babysitting, or about to tell your in laws exactly what you think of them. You can keep great Riesling for decades, but this one needs drinking within 6-12 months, that's ...

...Your own little bit of Jacob's creek. Riesling The Riesling grape is about 20th in the world in terms of volume, but is considered to be in the top three most important white grape varieties for quality. Beaten only by Chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, riesling is a grape high in 'Terrior'. That is to say, above all other grapes it takes on the characteristics of it's environment. This makes it a truly versatile grape variety, and it is used ...
