After working in the European wine industry for 13yrs, he moved to Southern Australia in 1961. In 1966 Wolf Blass registered the name 'Bilyara' (aboriginal for 'eaglehawk') which can be seen on the Wolf Blass bottles. Classy, dry, petrol laden Riesling Advantages: Elegant flavours, smooth, long Disadvantages: Only at Oddbins, some may find petrol flavours unusual ...this wine was the Australian Knappstein Clare Valley Riesling found at Oddbins at the price of £7.49 (I tasted it when my local Oddbins was still open, alas it is not any more as many Oddbins countrywide have been shut down). I tried the 2003 vintage but I think the vintages that are available are 2004 and beyond. I drank Knappstein Riesling by itself and it proved a wonderful companion to a warm, sultry summer’s evening. Blue Matron Advantages: Reasonable priced Disadvantages: Not the best value around ...have only tried the basic Blue Nun, and as the company to have produced a more sophisticated big sister to its signature wine, the 2004 Riesling varietal had to be worth a try. The bottle is clear, looking surprisingly like an Australian wine, with green and yellow colouring, but it's given away by the nice lady in a habit on the front. (Oddly Ciao have a picture of the Eiswein, which is much prettier). Blue Nun seem to want to encourage its core ... ...big sister to the base Blue Nun that clocks in at about 9.5%. I always find that alcohol percentage work on more of a logarithmic than linear scale, so I suspect this would get you drunk more than 25% quicker, which may be your plan, but should be borne in mind if you're driving, babysitting, or about to tell your in laws exactly what you think of them.
