When it come to choosing books for my children, my brother seems to know exactly what to buy for them, and this Christmas was no exception - could it be some psychic powers he may possess which I have no knowledge of? Or is it simply the fact that his kids are older than mine - he's been there, seen it, bought the DVD - and he simply 'knows'… these things..?

Whatever the answer, I am glad he does… As I found it a treat to read them what he buys.

This year the eight year old daughter got a Jacqueline Wilson and the four year old boy go this one.

I think the best children's books are the ones that the adult will like too. 'Who's in the Loo' is a 32 page picture book which is just one big long poem really - as is the case with many such books. It is a fun book that appeals to a child's sense of humour and to that of the grown up who is reading it. It's subject matter is funny and you will probably guess by the title.

When I read it at first, it reminded me of the Dr Seuss books, but without the tongue-twisters and the pictures of weird creatures! It is an easy read and my daughter read it alone and enjoyed it too.

Published in 2007 by Anderson Press, it is a soft-back, with bright colours and cute but bold drawings. The price on the back says £5.99. but it is cheaper elsewhere. (I saw it at £3.99 at Amazon). It is the winner of the 2007 younger children Red House Children's Book Award, and it is plain to see why it should earn such an acclaim.

I enjoyed reading this to the boy and have read it several times since. He laughs at it and I enjoy reading it aloud and seeing his enjoyment.

It is the simply, yet 'cheeky' tale of two children queuing up to go to the toilet in the zoo (I think, but it not really clear), both asking, 'Who's in the Loo.' There then follows some of their ideas as to who might be taking so long in the loo. For example:

"Is it a stoat
who's making a
stink?
Or a pig who's
washing his pants
in the sink?"

There, it is a simple plot, and not too taxing.

The book was written by Jeanne Willis and Adrian Reynolds did the artwork. Willis has other books to her credit, such as 'The Really Rude Rhino,' and 'Grill Pan Eddie.' I think I will be looking out for more of her books!
