people do? In a fascinating look at the science of stress, biologist Robert Sapolsky presents an intriguing case: that people develop such diseases partly because our bodies aren't designed for the constant stresses of a modern-day life--like sitting in daily traffic jams or growing up in poverty. Rather, they seem more built for the kind of short-term stress faced by a zebra--like outrunning a lion. With wit, graceful writing and a sprinkling of Far Side cartoons, Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers makes understanding the science of stress an adventure in discovery. This book is a primer about stress, stress-related disease, and the mechanisms of coping with stress. How is it that our bodies can adapt to some stressful emergencies, while other ones make us sick? Why are some of us especially vulnerable to stress-related diseases, and what does that have to do with our personalities?Sapolsky, a Stanford University neuroscientist, explores the role of stress in heart disease, diabetes, growth retardation, memory loss and autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. He cites tantalising studies of hyenas, baboons and rodents, as well as of people of different cultures, to vividly make his points. And Sapolsky concludes with a hopeful chapter, titled "Managing Stress". Although he doesn't subscribe to the school of thought that hope cures all disease, Sapolsky highlights the studies that suggest we do have some control over stress-related ailments, based on how we perceive the stress and the kinds of social support we have. --Christine Buckland

Right this shouldn't be hard to write, I mean there are loads of things I don't understand, I'm sorry to say that this might turn in to another 10 Things That Really Annoy me, lol! I hope you enjoy it, so here we go, in no particular order?
1) WHERE DO ALL THE SOCKS GO????
Ok, I know this is an age old question, but it is one I really don't understand. I mean I know I put the socks into the washing machine in pairs, yet when I come to take the washing out you can depend upon at least one sock being missing. WHY??? Where do they go? My husband, Dave, thought they were getting eaten by the machine, he was adament that if he took the machine to bit's we'd find all the missing socks! I said to him, "The inside of that machine must be like the TARDIS if it has all the socks we have lost over the last 5 years in there ...
girl like this? Is it REALLY only men who wouldn?t ask for directions???

Next up ? why is Victoria Beckham still famous? I have felt sorry for her in the past, but I?m at the end of my tether now. The woman would probably have got a lot more sympathy if she had left David Beckham when the Rebecca Loos scandal emerged three years ago ? instead she stuck by her man with the fakest looking smile pasted on her gaunt face. Suddenly I understood why she pouts so much, if that?s how dreadful she looks when she smiles. But no, she stayed with him, much like Coleen McLaughlin (who is coming up later) stayed with Wayne. I can only imagine it had to be for the perks of being a WAG and the fact she is married to one of the most fancied guys on the planet (although I personally don?tget ...
Advantages: Online functions on games are now useful. Loads of extras on live. Its not just about the games! Disadvantages: Game add-ons and expansions are pricey. The avatar marketplace is just blatant money grabbing.
-show and prizes like Arcade games and Microsoft points (the online currency) can be won.
Microsoft points can be bought and spent on game add-ons that can add more maps to a game for example. This is useful if a games developer wants to add more to a game after release. However I feel this is just another marketing ploy in order to get people to pay even more for games they have spent up to £40 on.
Now a standard argument between PS3 owners and Xbox ones are that the Playstation Network is free. But what you pay for (or don't) is what you get. A friend of mine who owns a PS3 always complains when I end up with game demo's, videos and general game information on Xbox Live before him. The last classic episode of this was that I was able to get the Pro Evolution Soccer 10 demo before him. He was not happy at all.
If you have an Xbox and an internet ...

Manufacturer's product description
Now in a third edition Robert M. Sapolsky's acclaimed and successful Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers features new chapters on how stress affects sleep and addiction as well as new insights into anxiety and personality disorder and the impact of spirituality on managing stress. As Sapolsky explains most of us do not lie awake at night worrying about whether we have leprosy or malaria. Instead the diseases we fear - and the ones that plague us now - are illnesses brought on by the slow accumulation of damage such as heart disease and cancer. When we worry or experience stress our body turns on the same physiological responses that an animal's does but we do not resolve conflict in the same way - through fighting or fleeing. Over time this activation of a stress response makes us literally sick. Combining cutting-edge research with a healthy dose of good humour and practical advice Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers explains how prolonged stress causes or intensifies a range of physical and mental afflictions including depression ulcers colitis heart disease and more. It also provides essential guidance to controlling our stress responses. This new edition promises to be the most comprehensive and engaging one yet.
