The renovation work at our house has been going on for about two years now largely due to the fact I am doing most of the work myself. I have, however, managed to get the front and back gardens done now and the ground floor including a new extension, so just the bathroom and bedrooms to go now!! This all means that DIY stores have featured quite highly on my most visited list over the last couple of years and although we have two B&Q's nearby, one of them a B&Q warehouse, there is also a Wickes which is a bit nearer, so whereas I will probably go to the B&Q if I need quite a lot of different things, as they have more choice, I use Wickes if I need just a couple of things and can't be bothered with the extra couple of miles. I have also found them to be cheaper on some things.
My Local Wickes
The Wickes near me is about a quarter of a mile away so it is very handy. It is done out in the usual grey and blue colours with the instantly reconisable blue and red logo and has a very large car park to the front. It always seems to be pretty quiet in Wickes which is a definate plus and the reason for this is there is a B&Q warehouse about a mile further up the road, however this particular Wickes has been open for a good few years now so is obviously holding its own still.
Inside the store it is very well laid out with plenty of room on the aisles, which is always handy in these types of stores as you quite often have a large heavy trolley to push round with you. It is sorted out into different sections like decorating, plumbing, joinery, hardware etc. and each section is well advertised and instantly recognisable.
The Staff
A lot of the staff that are at the store I am reviewing have been there for a few years, I have been using this store for about five years in total now and recognise quite a few of the staff, I have never had any problems with any of the staff either and have always found them to be very polite and helpful, I quite often send my wife up for a couple of things if I am in the middle of something and haven't got enough of something, there is never any problem if it is something she cannot manage, she simply asks a member of staff and someone gets the item for her and loads it into the car for her also. We have done that a few times and she has always found them happy to help.
Choice And Pricing
There might not be as much choice as there is a mile up the road at the B&Q warehouse but this is quite a small Wickes really and it is a warehouse I am comparing it too, however there is still plenty of choice in my opinion, with a good selection, of power tools, plumbing and electrical items, as well as hardware and even a really good conservatory section. Other Wickes stores elsewhere might be bigger than this one and even better stocked, however I can't honestly remember the last time I went in this store and couldn't find what I was looking for.
Price wise they are the same as everywhere else, including B&Q, they are dearer on some things and cheaper on others, its the same in the supermarkets. The things I have found them to be good on are; internal doors, dorr furniture, some power tools, sand, cement etc., and some timber. There are probably other things but these are the things that I remember.
Customer Service
I really have to give Wickes ten out of ten for this, I don't know if this store in particular has been told to be especially good as they are in such close competition with B&G but either way they are good. I bought a garden vac, at the end of last summer, used it a few times last year and then it went away for the winter really. I got it out again a the start of the summer this year and used it a couple of times and then one day it made a funny noise and stopped working on me. I decided I would take it back but could not find the reciept, so I rang Wickes and told them what had happened and that it was one of their own make and they offered to swap it without a reciept. Brilliant I thought so off I went to swap it for a new one but when I got to the store they had none in stock, but were expecting delivery in a couple of days. The manager, who I had spoke to on the phone, apologised for this and offered to ring me when they came in and also said I could leave the broken one with them and he gave me a reciept for it. Although it was nearly a week later that they got new stock in, true to his word he rang us up and I went down to the store to pick up the new one. I was very impressed with this service and felt they did not need to do this as I had lost my reciept. I also doubt whether B&Q would have done this.
Conclusion
All things considered Wickes are a very good store, they are very handy for me, and their customer service is excellent. I will probably use them more now since the garden vac incident although I still go to B&Q when I need lots of things simply because they have much more choice. The store I am reviewing is on Preston New Road in Blackpool about a mile off the M55.
Advantages: cheaper than most and got more than other places Disadvantages: none
...everywhere for a part and Wickes was the only place that stocked it.
Look out for their own brand of items too as they are the same quality as some of the big names.
You will find some items stocked in several places as they are used for different areas so if you dont find the item in one place go to the other.
One thing I especially like about Wickes is that if you are in the middle of a job and need a few differnet things you just have to go ... ...floor to be spotless as a lot of wood is cut to the size you want and bits on the floor!!
Laminated flooring is one of things we found a lot cheaper here than other places.
Basically if you need work done on anything indoors or even outdoors this is definately the shop to go. I found everything needed even a paint colour I wanted as I took in a piece of paper of the colour I wanted and they mixed two paints together and got the exact colour for ...

Advantages: Excellent range, good prices Disadvantages: Not as neat a shop as Homebase
...Of the major DIY stores Wickes has traditionally served those who are either tradesmen or are pretty keen on their DIY.
How does this apparent emphasis on the more serious DIY-er manifest itself. Firstly if you compare prices of wood such as planed pine, then Wickes will save you about 25% compared with the likes of Homebase and B&Q. Peripheral items like screws and nails are also substantially cheaper at Wickes though to realise the savings you ... ...available for customer assistance. However Wickes seem to be putting this right with a new comprehensive range of pamphlets designed to help those requiring a bit of help with their projects.
Wickes range of paints is less than you will find at the other competitors stores and perhaps to a certain extent this is acceptance that most people buy their paint from B&Q and Homebase anyway. Wickes are trying to improve their range of bathrooms, kitchens ...

Advantages: Great prices Disadvantages: No nick nacks
...I have just discovered Wickes in the process and im a complete convert. No more trips to homebase or B&Q for me. Wickes has everything a DIYer could need and cheaper too. Before you set out for your nearest WIckes let my give you one warning..... If you are off there to buy a quaint little BarBQ set you have seen at B&Q or a patio set, DONT BOTHER. They do not stock these type of items. What they do stack are all of the raw materials you will need ... ...was £19.95 At Wickes I got 8 sheets AND a double roll of Loft insulation for just £18.45!!! That is half price for the plasterboard!!! I could not believe it. I needed some masonry nails to attach the batoning for the walls. B&Q are charging the equivalent of 10p per nail (£1 for a pack of 10 nails) The quantities Wickes sell them in mean im paying over half price for them. So when B&Q claim to be the cheapest and Homebase are Slashing prices, spare ...

Advantages: It's cheap and sells good quality stuff. Disadvantages: It doesn't sell many soft furnishings
...are compared with each other, Wickes does tend to come out on top overall for most people. B&Q and Homebase both sell lots of soft furnishings and plants as well as timber, plaster and cement. Wickes doesn't sell many soft furnishings at all. It does sell wall paper but does not have a great choice at all. B&Q and Homebase sell loads of different types of wallpaper, curtains, blinds, rugs, bathroom carpets, lampshades, kitchen accessories and home-office ... ...be functional stuff. So here, Wickes does fall behind. If you are after any of the stuff mentioned above, then try B&Q and Homebase instead. However, do not fall into the trap of thinking "well, while I'm here buying lampshades and a bookcase, I may as well buy the tools, the stair rail and bannister, the bucket of pre-mixed plaster and the wheel barrow here as well. It is at this point that Wickes has much more to offer at far lower prices than ...

Advantages: all under one roof Disadvantages: dont go here dressed up
...The good news here with Wickes is that they have lots of leaflets to cover nearly any job you are hoping to do. They are set out in simple language that even a novice can follow. While in the shop look out for their Special offers as they do seem to have a lot. Like 5 good paint brushes for £2.99. Also pick up their booklet. Timber too is cheap here and you can buy it singly, in 5s or 10s which of course gets it a lot cheaper. The staff are very helpful and they also have a very good "help" desk which is not just for asking if they have something in stock and how much but you can ask them about using the item and they will make sure that you know the answer before leaving. If it is tools you are after, please try here first as they do have many offers on tools. ...

Advantages: They usually have what you want in stock and it is always cheaper than other shops in the area Disadvantages: none
would be very surprised.
On entering the shop as I said it looks similar to argos. You write out your order and hand it in and pay for it. Then you go to the next desk to collect it. It is as simple as that.
If you have not got a screwfix by you you can go on their site and order things and get next day delivery.
I must admit that whenever we need anything to buy in this line we go to this place or wickes.
Screwfix is very cheap compared to any other place.
A lot of shops if you want something you have to buy a couple or more than you want. Here you can pay for just the one which is great and makes things a lot cheaper.
They have a card in their shop where you give a mates name and address and if he goes in and spends £50 then you get a £10 screwfix direct voucher.
The staff are very helpful and do know what they ...

Advantages: Can use anywhere in house Disadvantages: not as good as other air wick products
I have recently bought the air wick mobile air diffuser ,i bought it for around 5.00 pounds.
I think but the prices do vary from shop to shop.
Most supermarkets will sell them.
It appealed to me as you could use it anywhere in the house as it is battery powered with a little fan inside it.
You can get it in four frangrances lavendar and camomile .
( which is the one i had )
mandarin and green tea,
Vanilla and orchid,
lily and jasmine.
The main reason i bought it is because i have got a kitten and i wanted it to go by the cats inclosed litter tray .
Even though its changed everyday it can sometimes give off a whiff , so when i saw this i thought it would be ideal.
I have to say though i was dissapointed in it , it didn,t give off that much of a smell .
I went and bought the air wick freshmactic and that is ...
Advantages: looks good, smells wonderful Disadvantages: £3 when not on offer

~~USE AND RESULTS~~
The candles are straight forward to use and just require the wick being lit. The candle is to be placed on an even surface and away from children.
When I picked this candle up of the shop shelf I could instantly smell it. The smell is a warming scent as is supposed to be of chocolate and honey. For me I was unable to smell the chocolate side of it and it did remind me of a musky smell with a hint of honey. The smell is lovely and as soon as the candle is lit you are able to smell it stronger. I have two of these candles burning at the same time in the downstairs of my house and the smells is able to fill the whole of the downstairs area. I am instantly able to smell it when I walk down the stairs. The smell is able to cover the remainder of the tea smell which for me is a bonus.
