Christmas is coming....Fast!

I had seen this game advertised on television, and being the big kid that I am, had considered buying it for our youngest. She is nine, but still loves kiddies games.

My partner and I went to visit my mother a week or so ago, and after we had had dinner, she pulled this game out of the cupboard. She is a big kid as well, which is were I get it from. As she has got older, she has more games than the kids.

My sister, myself and our partners got roped into playing it, and we can all say it turned into quite a riot.

********************BACKGROUND INFO*******************

This game is made by Spears games and it is designed for two to four players, aged four and upwards. It is designed to help children with memory. As with a lot of memory games it can get a little boring after a while, especially for us adults, but I believe it could have children sat for hours.

**********************PACKAGING***********************

The box itself is quite brightly coloured and eye catching, which I have to say I like. I love bright things that stand out from others. On the front of the box, there is a picture of the game and on the back of the box there is the instructions.

The picture on the front of the box, shows you the contents and the instuctions on the back of the box are in plain, easy to understand english. Which is good, as I hate having to try and figure out how to play something because the instructions are complicated.

*********************GAME CONTENTS********************Inside the box, you will find:
  • Four brightly coloured cards, with a worm on each one.
  • A red/green plastic apple shaped playing piece.
  • Twenty wiggly worms, each with its own coloured tail bit.

The four colours that are involved are red, green, blue and yellow. Each card is one of these colours and each worm has one of these colours at its end. This means that there are five worms of each colour. On the plastic apple shaped playing piece, you will see twenty holes. The worms sit in these holes, face up, so that you can not see the colour of their end!

On the plastic apple shaped piece, there is a lever on the right hand side, near the top.

**********************HOW TO PLAY*********************

Each player picks a card, and that means that what ever colour their worm on their card is, is what colour worms they are looking for.

Place all the worms in the holes.

Taking it in turns, you pull the lever on the side of the apple and then frantically pull out as many worms as you can. The lever makes the worms bop up and down, just enough for you to get your fingers around them, to pull them out.

You keep the worms that are your colour and you replace the worms that are not your colour. You can replace the worms in any of the holes, not just the one you removed it from.

Each lever pull lasts for about 30 seconds.

The player to remove all five worms that are their colour wins.

*********************ADDICTIVENESS********************

We all found it very entertaining, for about half and hour, then we got bored. Bear in mind that my sister and I are in out 20's and our partners are both in their 30's. To keep us entertained this long, was good.

*********************NOISE FACTOR*********************

When I am buying games for the kids, I always try to take into consideration the amount of noise a games makes. With four kids in the house you can imagine the noise level with all the different games that are available.

The actual games itself was not that noiey, there is a little buzzing from the apple once the lever has been pulled, but for 30 seconds at a time, it is not unbearable.

The noise that our family made when we were playing, was on the other hand, quite loud. There was a lot of raised voices and laughing. Adults are alwasy noisier than kids when it comes to games though, I find. We all tend to get a little too carried away.

*************************PRICE************************

My mother got this game for as a true bargain. Find of the week infact. She spotted in a second hand shop window and paid a measly 50p for it, brand new!

If you are not this lucky however, you will find it in woolworths and other toy shops for £9.99

***********************MY OPINION*********************

This is a good game, to help children with memory and colour matching. Although I do feel that the novelty of it wears off quite quick. It is not something that kids will sit at for hours, but the odd game here and there will keep them amused.

The price, I feel is reasonable, as most toys and games are so overly priced these days. The concept of the game is simple and so is playing. It is ideal for the younger kids, as it is very easy to play. They will pick it up very quickly.

The actual game itself was rather small in size though. I guess with it being aimed at four year olds and above, they have much smaller fingers than us adults, meaning they will be able to pick the worms out of the holes easier than us. We personally found that our fingers were all a little on the big side. Instead of us pulling the worms out of the holes we found ourselves pushing them in. The worms are small in size you see, meaning that little fingers would find it easy, big fingers would find it hard. The actual apple shaped piece is rather small as well.

In all, this is a good game, that I am seriously considering buying for our youngest. I know that she will enjoy it, even if the novelty does wear off quite quick.

Happy worming :)

Review of Wiggly Worms by Barb

Advantages: No batteries needed.
Disadvantages: Smaller than expected.

...fun need never end! Wiggly Worms, made by Spear’s Games, is a simple memory game for 2-4 players aged 4 years and over. It comprises a flat, plastic, red apple, approx. 15cm/6” in diameter, with 20 small wormholes in it. It comes with 20 green worms (over 3cm/nearly 1 ½” long) with different coloured tails (5 each of red, yellow, green and blue). Lastly it contains 4 coloured cards, (red, yellow, green and blue) each with a picture ...
...pop each worm into a hole on the apple, tail first, so only his little smiling face it just visible. Each player takes a card, thus determining the colour of worm that they need to find and collect. The apple has a simple lever on its side which, when pulled back, starts the timer, no batteries required! Once the timer has started each worm pops up and down its hole individually. Each player then takes his or her turn to try and catch worms before ... Read review

How to Keep Your Mole Entertained
Review of Wiggly Worms by molelover

Advantages: good value for money, simple for children to understand, teaches memory , colour, concentration and co-ordination
Disadvantages: quite noisy, they WILL eventually tire of it

Wiggly Worms is what Santa brought the moles for Christmas, and they've been playing it ever since... Actually I bought wiggly worms on Ebay: my partner and I had been on a self-catering holiday in Cornwall and the weather was so lousy we spent a day inside playing the board games in the cupboards, and this turned out to be our favourite. I also thought it might be a good game for my nephews to amuse themselves with (ages 2 and 4) so after the holiday ...
...it is to pull the wiggly worms out.) It's suitable noisy as the vibration is quite loud to make it toddler friendly and exciting for that age group. There are only five worms of each colour so each game doesn't last a great length of time, but of course kids will want to play it over and over again. Hell, even my husband and I were kept entertained for an hour or so! The success of this game is probably it's simplicity: it's easy for a child to understand, ... Read review

CATCH THEM WORMS
Review of Wiggly Worms by happygoluckygirl

Advantages: Great for your child's memory
Disadvantages: The playing area is smaller than you expect

...happened when an advert for Wiggly Worms came on, my son said the usual words "I WANT" and hubby being a big soft touch said to me later that evening "hey that does look a good game" so guess what - I MADE HIM BUY IT. So off to the shops we went, and there it was on the shelf a bright coloured box (to make sure we don't miss it lol) with a picture of the game on the front showing the contents of the box. and the usual instructions on the back. The ...

The worms go into each hole on the playing piece so the coloured end is not showing. The game is designed for two to four players, so each player picks a card and the colour of worm on the card is the colour of worm they are looking for. So with all the worms in their holes we are ready to play. ... Read review

Wiggle those worms!!!!!!!!
Review of Wiggly Worms by j_wozza

Advantages: Simple fun game for pre schoolers, no batteries!
Disadvantages: Quite small compared to what it looks on the box

I bought this game as it was on offer in Toymaster for £5.00 and caught my eye. I like nice simple games to play with my 4 year old twins. Games that don't involve bits or timely construction (like mousetrap / rumble in jungle) or games that run out of batteries every time. I was very pleased when I saw it was wind up and said for ages 4 and up. I got the game home and took it out the box. It was alot smaller than the box and what you would think, ...
...You can have up to 4 players. Each player chooses a colour of worm to collect, and they must collect 5 worms to win. They choose a card with this colour on. The board is an apple with 20 holes in. All 20 worms need to be put randomly in the holes in the apple. When it is switched on, the worms 'wiggle' up and down and can be caught when they come up, but you have to be quick! Each player turns the switch on their go and tries to catch a worm that ... Read review

Flick It, Bop It, Oh Sod it

Advantages: It's addictive!
Disadvantages: Your children hate you when you win

...various knobs and bits that have to be activated when instructed. ‘Twist It’ is a bright yellow conical shaped plastic attachment which needs to be flicked with the hand and twisted round, ‘Pull It’ is a blue shoe-shaped knob which of course has to be pulled, ‘Spin It’ is an orange cog shaped wheel which is spun round, ‘Flick It’ is a wiggly worm shaped green shape which has to be flicked with the hand, and the centre of the device has a large circular ‘Bop It’ button which has to be ‘bopped’ or pressed. The voice is accompanied by a rhythmic beat, and also for the more experienced player, there are different sounds for the different buttons, so if you can anticipate those before the instruction, you will be well on your way for a high score. For example, the sound of a bass drum means the ‘Bop It’ button needs to be pressed, a ratchet sound... Read review
