Advantages: Life as it was in the 1950s Disadvantages: None at all.
The author and life in the 1950s
The late John Braine was born in 1922 in Bingley, West Yorkshire and in total he wrote twelve books, all fiction. John's most popular novel was `Room At The Top`, written in 1957 and eventually two years later the story was made into a film.

Money was tight for most families and many working families lived in sub standard housing that would be seen as only fit ...

and the doors open on to internal corridors. There is a Penny's Diner in the grounds; this is a traditional 1950s American Diner! The food was great, typically cheap and plenty of it. The inn supplies a voucher for free breakfast at the diner, this cannot be used for dinner, but is valid for the most expensive breakfasts on the menu! You do have to pay taxes and of course the tip.
Our spotlessly clean room had a king sized bed, and a recliner to sit in whilst watching the large TV, in the corner was a fridge and microwave. The bathroom has a bath with shower over. There is a hairdryer in the room, and we had too many TV channels to count.
We ...
Advantages: Beautifully illustrated, witty and well written. Disadvantages: May be a little dark for sensitive younger readers.
INTRODUCTION

Last week, while I was working at home, a terrible, awful, high-pitched screech - originating from the living room - reverberated around our house, putting my parental instincts on high alert and galvanising me into immediate action. I hurtled down the stairs, fearing the worst, only to find my unrepentant daughter pointing to a bug the size of a ladybird which had injudiciously alighted on one of her toys. This wasn?t the first time something completely innocuous had resulted in a completely disproportionate reaction from her, and I needed to do something about it. Remembering the excellent cautionary tale of ?The Boy Who Cried Wolf? from a dilapidated book of Aesop?s Fables I had when I was a child, I set about trying to find a contemporary version which my ...
