Wilkinson's the hardware shop is a Worksop based chain that are lovingly known as Wilko's .I used to work for them and I am a fan of this shop but less so than I used to be .
They have branches in such places as Nottingham , Shipley , Barnsley , Huddersfield , Sheffield , Chesterfield and Middlesbrough but are opening more down in the South of England.
The shop prides itself on it's low and good value prices . However I have noticed that the prices have discreetly crept up over the past 18 months and now there is little difference between them and say Woolworths in many products.
Wilko's stock all manner of products . They range from screws , nails , compost , seeds , bulbs , shrubs , pet food , kitchen products such as brillo pads , kitchen towels . They also sell a lot of decorating stuff such as paint , emulsion , wallpaper and DIY products such as sand , cement , tiles and some basic things for the car such as De icer etc.
A pretty impressive choice and some of the newer branches also sell clothes and footwear , jewellery etc too.
Wilko's are useful if you want a new battery for your smoke alarm or wish to buy a net curtain rail or curtain hooks etc as well as a limited selection of music and books.
The stores are well set out co-ordinated and have plenty of room in the aisles especially the newer designed ones. The staff are trained to be helpful and usually are .
I use to buy all my garden extras such as seed , pruners , compost at Wilko's but I don't bother as much now . The reason for shopping there is the low prices and value for money as I've said and really they used to be like the Kwik Save of the DIY shops.
I don't bother much now because in my view they are no longer as cheap and some of the products - well the quality leaves a little to be desired to say the least. The own brand compost at 10 litres for £1.19 has a poor quality and texture to it . The strength in the gardening lies with their own branded seeds . Some of these retail at 39p a packet . Flowers such a Alysum and candytuft , whilst some own brand veg seeds such as carrot retail at 49 p - 59 p a packet. This is value and I can confirm that the seeds are alive they do come up.
Moving on some of the own brand white gloss at 1 litre for £2.99 is poor quality but for that price I guess what can you expect to be fair.
You do generally get what you pay for in these types of shops and Wilko's is worth a look whenever you are passing.
Good op, I enjoy just wandering around Wilkos now and again because you can pick up some bargains, your right though the quality isnt always brilliant.
I'd just finished an op on Wilkinson's which I was going to post later - but as I've read this, I'll hang on for a couple of days to give yours a fair crack. Cheers Good op.
