For my first review in a long time I am forced to mention the fact that I have just returned from a very nice time backpacking around Oz. Now its not that I’m trying to show off (really, its not), more that it might go some way to explaining why I bought some of the things that I did. You may start to notice a theme based around these travels as reviews progress but bear with me, I've learnt a lot these past few weeks... Valuable lesson number 1 was the art of packing - when you have to carry everything on your back suddenly that extra pair of socks begins to look rather too heavy. Which brings me to today's subject, the Wilkinson Sword Intuition, and what a marvellous subject it is too.
Despite spending far too long as a dishevelled backpacker a girl has to have some standards and hairy legs just won't do! I'm a sucker for any sort of gadget, so when a friend of mine pointed me towards this odd looking device my radar was working overtime… 'Intuition' (exciting name isn’t it...) promises to 'lather and shave in one easy step' - so no need for bulky shave gels then, perfect!
Lets have a closer look... *The Packaging and Price* The packaging was rather over zealous in my opinion, but isn’t it always? Too much plastic surrounded
by yet more plastic. Despite this, it was very easy to open – no fiddling about with scissors here, just pull in the appropriate places and the perforated plastic comes apart in no time – now why can’t they all think of this? In the standard start up pack I bought you have your Intuition razor with one blade already attached, a spare blade and a rather nifty hook to hang your razor and spare on your bathroom wall. Even better than this is the fact that it has plastic suckers to stick to the tiles rather than the sticky fixers you find on other products - less mess and hassle should you ever try to take it down!
I paid £4.99 from Superdrug for my starter pack and as far as I can tell this is a standard price from all the usual retailers. As is often the case, they draw you in with the initial buy only to sting you later with the cost of extra blades… another £4.99 – 5.99 for 3 more blades. A bit excessive I think considering what I paid for the actual razor but on a par with competitors. *The Product* At first sight it's a rather bulky looking ladies razor but nicely sculpted with a rather fetching blue and white colour scheme.
But wait, what’s the extra clart around the blade? Fear not, for this is what makes Intuition different from the millions of other razors you can buy, the 'Skin Conditioning Solid'. The 'triple blade' (lets not forget that, none of this single blade rubbish for us!) is surrounded by what can only be described as a rather grand sounding block of blue soap. Before you all start exclaiming in horror, it’s ok, this isn’t just any old soap – god, I can’t imagine shaving with your bog standard soap – I’d have no skin left! Imagine a solid block of moisturiser crossed with shaving oil and you get the general idea. It works like this: the blades are surrounded by this block of soap (lets just call it that for the sake of argument), slightly indented down into it so the blade isn’t actually sticking out. When you press the soap down onto your leg, the pressure pushes the soap block down, exposing the blade just enough to shave with. Clever eh? This deposits enough soap onto your leg while you shave.
*The Results* Sceptical? I certainly was. My skin is particularly sensitive to products of any sort, not least when I shave so there was a bit of a gamble involved with this one. I decided that it would be sensible to try it out before I left on my travels so off I whisked to the bathroom to play with the new toy. You do have to have a certain amount of trust in the product to take the plunge and actually use the thing… it just doesn’t seem right not to cover you, the bathroom and the razor in copious amounts of shaving gel to avoid any nasty accidents. Instead I was poised with nothing but water on my legs and this odd looking razor in my hands. Never one to shirk a challenge I gallantly fought my fears – to find that once you get into it and realise you won’t do any damage it’s really rather good. Despite feeling rather big (oo er) with a wide handle the razor is easy to hold and use, after all there is no slippery gel/foam getting in the way. It’s very light and well sculpted for use both on legs and underarms. Apply more pressure to get a closer shave, and to apply more soap to the legs. The only word of warning is that it should never be used without water, but who in their right mind would want to do that anyway?
The only problem I found was that the lack of foam means that it isn’t immediately obvious where you have and have not shaved. I had to go over a few areas a couple of times but then I would probably find myself doing that with any razor. The soap block feels like a moisturiser and shaving oil in one, the shave was good and it left my legs smooth and conditioned, not dry or sensitive.
*The Final Verdict* Having transported my Intuition around Oz I can safely say it’s a very robust little thing – not messy and very easy to use. The blades seem to last well – they advise that when the level of the soap block is below the level of the blade then it’s time for a new one. I was worried that the soap would disappear long before the blade was finished but it doesn’t seem to be the case, in fact if anything the soap lasts far longer than you need. I originally bought the product in the hope it would ‘do’ for while I was away and to avoid having to take yet another bottle/can in my bag… but actually I have been very pleasantly surprised, and now that I’m back my Intuition still has a place on my bathroom wall.
I have only given this 4 out of 5 stars simply because of the price of replacement blades. It was a tough decision to make since I really do think its a good product, but I can't help feeling rather ripped off if I want to keep using it!

I recently bought one of their other razors. It's ok...but definitely far less exciting than the one you got!
